(Somebody want to help this reader out? We’ve got nothing – promoted by Colorado Pols)
Two brief facts and a question.
In 2006, Colorado voters rejected Referendum I, a civil unions initiative. Yesterday, Republicans repeatedly invoked Ref. I to justify opposition to Senate Bill 172. “Respect the will of the voters” I believe is the mantra repeated by Republicans like Brian DelGrosso.
In 2010, Colorado voters rejected by a much wider margin Amendment 63, Jon Caldara’s initiative to opt Colorado out of federal health care reform.
But Republicans continue to push legislation that would force Colorado out of federal health care reform. I have not heard ONE Republican say we should “respect the voters” on Amendment 63. Nothing like that appears in Rep. Stephens’ letter to Sen. Betty Boyd. In fact, using the same logic applied to civil unions, Stephens is brazenly flouting the will of the voters by demanding that the health care exchange bill, SB-200, be amended to force Colorado out of health care reform!
What I want is very simple: I want a Republican to explain to me how this is not the pathetic, utterly hypocritical, laughable absurdity it appears to be.
You have the floor.
