“The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

–Isaac Asimov

  1. I don’t have a strong opinion on Neera other than she’s clearly competent. Biden earned his right to choose a Cabinet and execute his agenda on behalf of the 80-plus million Americans who voted for him.

    Susan Collins’ statement on Tanden is pretty absurd. Collins didn’t signal she was ‘troubled’ with the most hateful, egregious, and violent remarks by Trump and his supporters over the last four years. The idea that she would position herself as a moral arbiter regarding tweets is notable.

    1. It is indicitave of the addle-pated Collins that she fully believes (maybe just doesn't care) that no one would notice that, Michael.

      Tanden is a victim of the toxic culture in politics created by Gingrich, Luntz, Limbaugh, et al, and hoisted ever higher by Fox, The T***p consortium, and the small, female moron with the AR-15s on her bookshelf.

      I'm telling you, Michael, as time passes, I am more and more aware of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

      My fear is that I am a victim…😁

    2. Well, as tweets  go, Tom Cotton is a fraud, Cruz does have less heart than a vampire and Moscow Mitch is Moscow Mitch.  But really, other than being the ” first female Asian-American”, what qualifies Tanden to head OMB?

      Give me some old buzzard with a green eye shade and a sharp pencil.  Does Janet Yellen have a sister?

      Tokenism in lieu of competence is shaping up as the Achilles Heel of this young administration.

      1. She may be the token lamb, someone Biden could sacrifice and build bona fides with the Sanders wing given she pretty much stands against everything Bernie supports.  That makes me think she’s the perfect nominee for you, V! 😂😂

      2. What sort of "qualification" would count as the head of OMB?  The White House website says

        1. Budget development and execution;
        2. Management, including oversight of agency performance, procurement, financial management, and information technology;
        3. Coordination and review of all significant Federal regulations from executive agencies, privacy policy, information policy, and review and assessment of information collection requests; and
        4. Clearance and coordination of legislative and other materials, including agency testimony, legislative proposals, and other communications with Congress, and coordination of other Presidential actions.

        Given that a Presidential budget is dead on arrival in Congress, preparing it doesn't seem to be a central competency.

        Management of the federal government is, at least, a team sport, and whoever heads the OMB should pick competent people to do it.

        Coordination & review of government policies — seems mainly a matter of understanding and choosing among options — so someone who has worked government policy, like a Senate legislative director or think tank denizen.

        Clearance and coordination … again, someone who can do the political tasks of balancing, integrating and prioritizing within an Administration agenda.

        I know it is a low bar, but she is every bit as qualified as Mick Mulvaney.

      3. In some good reporting by Noah Bierman, we know that VP Harris is the most targeted American politician on the internet.

        This is what being a smart, black woman in America is like 56 years after the demise of Jim Crow laws.

        Black, female and high-profile, Kamala Harris is a top target in online fever swamps

        Speier’s concerns that the first female vice president would attract outsize assaults and venomous lies from social media’s ugliest players have now been validated. Research shows that Kamala Harris may be the most targeted American politician on the internet, one who checks every box for the haters of the fever swamps: She’s a woman, she’s a person of color and she holds power.

    1. Speaking of ignorance…

      1. We heard that this evening. Karen turned to me and said, “someone there’s been reading Pols.”
        Isn’t Joy Reid a local girl? I think I remember seeing somewhere on here that she was an East High Angel

        1. No, she’s a Bellos Warrior. Montbello is another school I have fond memories of. Really great teachers, striver students, juicy faculty scandals. I taught yearbook and journalism there for four years. (After Reid’s time).
