Larimer County GOP shows Dan Maes how to get fined like a BOSS!

(It’s not easy, dethroning Dan Maes – promoted by Colorado Pols)

Remember when Dan Maes got the biggest fine in Colorado political history? And remember the talking point “If Dan can’t fill out proper paperwork, how can he possibly be a competent Governor?” I do because I used it. Well it turns out Larimer County GOP wanted to remind every one how much of a failure Dan Maes was by getting an even BIGGER fine. (Fort Collins Coloradoan–Pols) The current total is somewhere around $60,000.

The current Larimer County GOP Chair Larry Carillo has resigned. There were rumors that he was going to take a shot at State Chair. With this information coming out, I’d honestly rather Ted Harvey than him (yea low blow I know).

Now 60k is way more than the 30k the Larimer County GOP raises in 2009. I was not able to get records on how much they raised in 2010. The most humorous part is due to a paperwork error, there are now two Larimer County GOP parties. Because of this, the fines are raising at a rate of $700 a day.

What will this mean for Scott Gessler? As Sectary of the State, I believe he has the power to wipe all the fines. Now I don’t believe Scott will pull something that dumb, but I believe he will reduce some of the fines considering the organization got cloned. I’m pretty sure he will have some pressure to reduce the fines. The question is at what point in reducing the fines does he cross from “being nice” to “corruption”? Secretary Gessler was in the news recently about trying to work for his old lawyer firm that deals with election law, so any reducing in the fine that looks like corruption will not benefit him right now.

What will the State GOP do to Larimer? Will the State Party bail them out? I think it’s in the best interest to do so, but what will the new State Chair decide?

How will this affect the GOP State Chair race? Are any of the candidates going to speak out on this? I personally hope so.

Now here is something to think about. If you count fines as negative income, I’m pretty sure the Larimer County Libertarian Party raised more money in 2010.
