  1. WOTD from Steve Schmidt. (Quoted extensively because twitter feeds are hard to read.)

Steve Schmidt, the former Republican strategist and newly minted member of the Democratic Party, went on Twitter this evening to explain how January 6 path will spell doom for the Republican Party. Much like the Whigs before them, the Republicans are about to plunge into a civil war that will pit the authoritarian and anti authoritarian factions against each other.

    Steve Schmidt (lightly edited):

The die is cast for the Republican Party. It will be destroyed on January 6th in much the same way the Whig party was destroyed by the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854. The act unraveled the Missouri compromise and allowed for the westward expansion of slavery.
The party could not survive its factionalism. There could be no more accommodation, compromise and partnership between pro-slavery and anti-slavery Whigs. A new political party was born, the Republican Party. That party will divide into irreconcilable factions on January 6th.

The 6th will commence a political civil war inside the GOP. The autocratic side will roll over the pro-democracy remnant of the GOP like the Wehrmacht did the Belgian Army in 1940. The ‘22 GOP primary season will be a blood letting. The 6th will be a loyalty test. The purge will follow. Does anybody doubt the outcome of the @IvankaTrump vs. @marcorubio primary in Florida? Anyone willing to make a bet on @robportman?

It turns out JFK was right. The problem of trying to ride the tiger is the likelihood of winding up inside the tiger. The poisonous fruit from four years of collaboration and complicity with Trumps insanity, illiberalism and incompetence are ready for harvest. It will kill the GOP because it’s Pro Democracy faction and Autocratic factions can no more exist together then could the Whig Party hold together
the abolitionist with the Slave master.

    1. It will pay to stay tuned to what Steve has to say through the day and evening.

There's no mention of the extortion call w/GA or dump's plans to flee to Scotland on Jan 19.

          1. Song of the day by Pete Seeger: "I want to go to Andorra"

I want to go to Andorra, Andorra, Andorra,
I want to go to Andorra, it's a place I adore,
They spent four dollars and ninety cents
            On armaments and their defense,
Did you ever hear of such confidence?
            Andorra, hip hurrah!

        1. 's ok. There is probably a nice black site in Ukraine that could be used to waterboard the donald until he confesses to russian collusion and anything else you'd want him to say …. maybe even having loved Stormy for a bit.

It should take all of 15 minutes to make him scream like a slobbering weasel.

    2. Even Ken Buck Thinks Trump Stooges' Election-Blocking Bid Is Crazy

      https://www.westword.com/news/ken-buck-thinks-trump-stooges-bid-to-block-election-is-crazy-11875283

"Congress has the job of counting the votes after the Vice President, the President of the Senate, opens the envelopes," he pointed out. "It's not to second guess the state legislatures, it's not to second guess the secretaries of state or the governor's signature on those ballots…. It is simply to count votes. "

      1. Glimpses of rationality and then the plunge back into "Kill 'em All" flamboyantly reckless and boastful behavior and bravado.

I would guess that he was not gripping his 'gun' when he said that.

      2. Yes, but for all the right-wing States' Rights reasons! Hating Trump does not make one necessarily on the right side of history. History has MANY wrong sides, and Buck is staking the Frackistan state flag on this one.

    1. I’ve never seen the Swiss one, Dave, but I loved the other one, about the “harvest” in Italy. Some teacher or other showed that one every year in my elementary school days.

  2. One WOTD: DARVO

Deny, Attack and Reverse Victim and Oppressor.

Trump's solicitation of election fraud from Georgia's SOS really needs to be heard to be believed. It is so weird to hear – words come out of Trump's mouth, Raffensberger says "It's not true" and Trump continues as if nothing happened.

There is a version floating around with the theme of the Godfather over-layed on the conversation.

    1. Sometime after Jan. 20th:

President Trump, Jesus Christ and Napoleon walk into a bar.

The nurse leans over the counter and asks “You are going to be good boys today and take your meds and not spit them out, right?”

  3. I have a Georgia update from my sister in Fulton county. She tells me the same thing the MSM is reporting. The Stacy Abrams machine has its mojo working and the contact has been almost daily offering rides.

Her son is a MAGAt whom she says is disturbed by what is going on and is “sick of the whole thing”. She says a number of Repubs there are in the “just not gonna vote” camp.

It looks like the Loeffler / Warnock race is not as close as the Perdue/ Ossoff contest.

      1. District of Columbia

Open carry is illegal in D.C. District of Columbia Concealed Carry Pistol Licenses (CCPLs) are required in order to concealed carry and are issued to residents and non-residents and require a firearms training course that has been approved by the Metro Police.

          1. . . . And, violating the carry laws, especially intentionally, in another U.S. jurisdiction just may be sufficient grounds for revocation of  your concealed-carry permit (. . . depending upon, I suppose, which box of breakfast cereal yours came from).

    1. Qbert now has a wikipedia page that is, shall we say, scant on details regarding personal and family history.

But the page has been protected from editing by some yahoo lawyer named Charles Shirley who seems to do this for a living because he is also covering pages for Kimberley Klacik (Baltimore), Aaron Coleman (Kansas?), David Valadao (CA), Marjory Taylor Greene (GA), Christina Hale (IN), Victoria Spartz (IN, founder of the Hamilton County, Indiana, Tea Party), updated the Rifle, CO and Altamonte Springs, FL wikipedia pages to add QBert as a ‘notable’ person, Beth Van Duyne (TX, pushed for a vote on a resolution in the Irving (TC) City Council that expressed support of a bill in the Texas Legislature seeking to ban sharia law)), Brandon Creighton (TX, Creighton sponsored SB 15, which weakens LGBTQ anti-discrimination laws passed by Texas cities), etc, etc.

      also David Perdue, Ted Cruz

  4. Easy action by text (Resistbot) to push back against the pro-Trump treason in the House of Reps:

Text Sedition to 50409. After answering some questions to determine your representatives, the ap will send letters to these individuals, asking them to support Pelosi in mandating  that the 126 Republicans wanting to invalidate  state’s votes and undermine the Constitution should not be seated – if the Elections are suspect, then their own election is suspect, too.

I tried this- it seems to work as promised.

  5. “Greatest health care system in the world!”

Sorry I’m now unable to locate the particular article that came across my newsfeed this morning, . . .

. . . but just google up “doctors unable to get covid vaccinations” and let that sink in for a couple of awful seconds (just until it hurts) . . .

FFS doesn’t even begin to cover it.  You and I live in a s-hole country with a health-care “system” so jacked-up and dysfunctional that it’s not uncommon that many of our front-line physicians are finding it difficult to get easily vaccinated.

All about choices, I suppose — guess they should have gone to Billionaire School, or played professional sports, instead of “signing up” to be MDs??

  6. Wall Street Eyes Billions in the Colorado’s Water

Investor interest in the river could redefine century-old rules for who controls one of the most valuable economic resources in the United States.

Is QBert ready for the role she will have to play?

How do gun rights apply to water rights?

It's the bucks, not the bullets.

    1. I always thought water rights were Tipton’s one redeeming grace. Gertie or Duke, or sun using  ( or Kirkdogg- welcome!) could tell me if that’s correct.

      1. Tipton, I believe, never supported trans- mountain diversions, and in 2019 introduced the Water Rights Protection Act (H.R. 579) that defended states rights from federal takings.

I am sure our new congresswoman has a deep and extensive knowledge of water law and will protect our water with her Glock.
