Rep. Steve King (of Iowa) is basically saying that babies born and living their whole lives within a state’s boundaries, never accessing health care, are a reason that the health care reform bill is unconstitutional. At the end, Rep. King says he is talking about babies “in trash cans.”
Responding to King before the “babies in garbage cans” reference, after which he was rightfully taken aback, Rep. Jared Polis of Colorado challenges him to find an example of a child in America born without access to some health care, be it a hospital, midwife, or immunizations. Polis is right of course, and the exceptions that Steve King might find, including but not limited to his gruesome example, are if anything reasons why we need health care reform.
Among other things…
Anyone who says that the life of a Congressman is easy has never had to have an argument with someone so gratuitously offensive. A long couple of years it’s going to be.
