The full list in a press release after the jump.

House Minority Leader Sal Pace today announced the Democratic committee assignments for the coming legislative session that opens on January 12, 2011.  Democrats hold 32 seats in the House while Republicans hold 33.

Included in the announcement were appointments for the Democrats’ nine newly-elected (and appointed) members, Representatives-elect Crisanta Duran (Denver), Rhonda Fields (Aurora), Deb Gardner (Boulder), Millie Hamner (Summit County), Matt Jones (Louisville), Pete Lee (Colorado Springs), Dan Pabon (Denver), Angela Williams (Denver), and Roger Wilson (Garfield County).

Pace praised the newest members of the House, calling them “extraordinarily promising lawmakers.”  Rep.-elect Roger Wilson, who was appointed to the Agriculture, Livestock and Natural Resources Committee, said “I’m excited to be on a committee that is a key economic component to the district I serve.”

Rep.-elect Angela Williams, a small-business owner, said she would use her assignment to the Economic and Business Development Committee, “to focus on creating jobs, fixing the economy and creating small business opportunities for entrepreneurs.”

Newly appointed Rep.-elect Millie Hamner was selected to be on the Education Committee and on the Transportation Committee, where she has vowed to, “work on behalf of our local economy by fighting for scarce transportation dollars and keeping the Western Slope a beautiful place that continues to attract visitors from all over the globe.”

  1. Why can’t the House get rid of Gardners?  One leaves, another comes in.  At least this one will probably be less obnoxious.  I wonder if she has a lobbyist look alike to confuse new people, too?

  2. What close observers will notice is that Speaker-Elect Frank McNulty has changed the names of some of the committees because, presumably, the previous names demonstrated insufficient fealty to right-wing ideology. The Health and Human Services committee is now the Health and Environment Committee. The Business and Labor committee is now known as the Economic and Business Development committee.

I see that in all of their years out of power the Colorado GOP still has the maturity of your average 8th grader.

      1. I’m not aware that they did and, apparently, you’re not sure of it yourself. Get back to me when you can point to specifics and then I’ll gladly discuss this with you. At this point though I think it says a lot about the Republican philosophy that the words “human services” and “labor” are verboten.

        1. It looks less… political to me, but there were changes.

House Health, Environment, Welfare, and Institutions changed into House Health and Human Services.  Seems reasonable.

House Information & Technology went away.

Regardless of the minor changes, I do agree that McNulty is making a point whereas Romanoff just consolidated the one name.  Could just be my partisan eyes though.  I have no idea why Info and Tech was absorbed, other than it’s not as prevalent because it’s prevalent to the point of commonplace now.

          1. True, except that the state has had one disastrous software/hardware development project after another.  Not only does the Exec Branch need to provide better oversight of these projects (Judicial just does their own thing, so who knows), but the legislature also needs to manage this budgetary mess better.

            1. I know of a certain system that was just set up.  Not only are they already out of money to solve any problems, but they also seem to be using the problems as an excuse to delay payments to FY 2011/12.  Now I’m suspicious of which problem we actually have.

We could write a bill to fix.  It would probably go straight to State Affairs. 😛

    1. Agriculture, Livestock and Drilling

      Budget Cutting

      Fun With Business

      Education and Creationism

      Health, Environment and Labor Camps

      Sooo, it could’ve been worse.

  3. In the lack of Western Slope representatives on these committees.

I suppose someday we’re going to need to actually elect some people and give the majority something to work with.

    Maybe someday…

  4. Are you sure you looked at the right list?  Check both the R’s and D’s on House Agriculture – where all the water legislation lives – and where they reside.
