Colorado Pols Gathering- CHANGE OF VENUE!

  • by: Aristotle

(For those Polsters who like to mix in a bit of conversation and strong drink with our strong opinions, please note the change of venue for Saturday’s meet up. – promoted by Voyageur)

Hi everyone,

The Pols gathering (this Saturday at 3:00pm) will NOT be taking place at the Wynkoop Brewery. It will be at the Falling Rock Taphouse at 1919 Blake Street, just a couple of blocks over and up from the Wynkoop. The reason for the change follows….

I did this because the Wynkoop requires an hourly fee for large parties, even if you don’t get one of their banquet rooms, and won’t split the check up more than a couple of ways.

I want this to be a pretty casual event. Doing something like the Wynkoop required would mean I’d be on the hook for their fee (which I frankly can’t afford) as well as knowing exactly who was coming, etc. Just more of a hassle than it’s worth.

Anyway, the Falling Rock is nearby, so people who have to take the light rail won’t have to walk a lot further. I AM a little nervous about them, though: I called, someone took down my name, no one called back, I called and talked to someone else, and they said I should just phone before I head over. Um, okay.

Anyway, I’m sorry if anyone had their heart set on the Wynkoop and I’ll be really sorry if this means someone might not be able to make it after all.

That said, I hope to see you there!

  1. Instead of one place I’ve never been before, I find we’re headed to another place I’ve never been before.

Is there a rough estimate for how many of us are planning on showing up?

        1. I’m trying to find the video of the time I wrestled an out of control bengal tiger on Crack to the ground, trussed it up, and returned it to the zoo.

      1. Enjoy for now because… not gonna be for long, brother…

There’s better things to fight over (immigrants, gay marriage, Glass Steagall) than the future of the ‘Conservative’ movement

I always your appreciate your kind words – thank you!

    1. I won’t make it to either venue in Denver either, so we’ll have to find some other time and place for you to buy me a drink!

The count of those [2,000] so-called under votes netted Curry 304 more votes, but not enough to catch up to Wilson. (GJ Sentinel)

As you said, we’ll have fun! (Even though we are both disappointed that Kathleen Curry won’t be serving Colorado citizens in the legislature this session.)

  2. Will it be the people who are standing quietly staring at their feet?  Should I look for pale, overweight people who really need a haircut?  Is there a secret handshake?  If so, are there online instructions?

      1. We had a big family birthday party in February 2005 or 06 at which everybody was required to fashion an AFDB and wear it throughout the evening.  I have photos somewhere to prove it. I think the beanies all got recycled, though, so I’ll have to make a new one.

        1. I have been informed by those who know them well

They find relief in quite a clever way

When they’re sorely pressed, they whistle for a spell

And whistling seems to brighten up their day

And that’s what simple folk do

          So they say

  3. …but Falling Rock is just as good a joint to drink with you babbling freaks as any other downtown joint.

Maybe Scruffy Murphys would be better suited for this group of blogging ruffians…

    1. i.e., no outing of people you’ll meet on the blog. We mostly trust each other based on being here for years, but I’m not sure about someone who just registered today. Nothing personal.

      1. I would say that if you’re that worried about being outed, you shouldn’t come. This is a public forum where lots of people can see it. The fact that someone would take the time and effort to create a new account and post a polite question leads me to believe that he is not who you should be worried about. It’s the random people who show up, creepily walk around and eavesdrop on people’s conversations, and then disappear into the creepy ether from whence they came that you should be wary of.

Seriously though, the situation you’re describing has, as far as I know, only happened once. Usually the lurkers I’ve met at these are cool.

          1. You’re right that people have to follow the rules. If people come to these things with the intent of finding out who Polsters are IRL and outing them, then they will probably not happen anymore. That would be a shame.

So if everyone is just cool and not lame, things will be great.

                    1. Ok, maybe not.  But much thanks to Aristotle for organizing this meeet up.

Enjoyed seeing/meeting Voyager, Jason Salzman, EmeraldKnight76, sxp151, Canines, jpsandsci, Redstateblues, PERAhopeful, ColoradoDem Di, SSG_Dan, Mr. Toodles, and more (sorry I can’t recall everyone that was there).

                    2. DaftPunk, DonQ, and the guy from Colorado Independent whom I didn’t talk to because he wasn’t one of us.  I think that’s everybody who was there when I was, anyway.  Great fun; thanks for doing the heavy lifting, Ari!

  4. Unfortunately I am not going to be able to make it.  Sometimes that work thing seems to get in the way.

My company should give me some kind of award for working instead of quaffing a cold one with fellow bloggers.

  5. or do we have a specific room set aside? How will I know where the group is meeting?

Most importantly: Is there someone who will hold my hand when I get overwhelmed?

  6. Sorry I had to blaze early. My wife was going to the Nuggets game with some friends and she had to meet them at 6PM.

I really hope we do this again in the not too distant future. I only got to really talk to a couple of you all and there were so many others I wish I had gotten more of a chance to meet.

See you on Pols in any case!

  7. And sorry to the person whose cashmere coat I stole. But it was cold!

We had a lively discussion about teacher tenure, with the part of DavidThi808 ably portrayed by DaftPunk.

And I haven’t heard this much discussion about the sexiness of my penis since the last time I left the basement.

    1. And great to meet everyone.  Thanks to Ari for setting it up.

If anyone actually did accidentally grab my black cashmere coat, I’m offering a reward for its return.  SXP doesn’t have it, I already TSA frisked him/her.
