The Kiss of Death: Palin Endorses Tipton

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

CORRECTED: The Fort Collins Coloradoan’s Bob Moore says there’s no confirmation that Palin is actually coming to Aspen tomorrow for this fundraiser, meaning the phrase “standing between Sarah Palin and Karl Rove” in the Salazar campaign’s press release cited below is, uh, metaphorical or something. Corrected version follows, hope Rove’s giant 527 doesn’t run any ads for any congressional candidates who are coming though. We forgot to mention that before.

—–

That’s the word from CD-3 this evening–Karl Rove is coming to Aspen tomorrow to headline a $7,200-a-plate fundraiser with  for the luckiest man in the pottery business, Scott Tipton. Sarah Palin also endorsed Tipton today. In a brief statement, spokesperson Tara Trujillo for Rep. John Salazar’s campaign makes appropriate fun: “Seeing Scott Tipton standing between Sarah Palin and Karl Rove makes sense on so many levels.”

To be honest, we wonder on a practical level about the wisdom of Sarah Palin’s endorsement for Tipton. Voters are more likely to punch the generic Republican on ballots this year than in prior years, and that makes Democrats nervous. But a splashy endorsement from Palin could be enough to recall a string of wacky, amateurish moments of Tipton’s on the campaign trail so far. Palin’s basement approval ratings and frequent trips off the reservation, like Trujillo says, go very well with Tipton’s call to cut the federal government ‘in half’, or invoking 9/11 just because it sounds cool.

Sadly, not in a way that the majority of voters will appreciate.
