First from New York City, we have a worker who was fired for trying to unionize the United Federation of Teachers office workers.
The money quote:
I told him I want to have the same rights that teachers have,” said Callaghan, 63, of Staten Island. “He told me he didn’t want that, that he wanted to be able to fire whoever he wanted to.” (emphasis mine)
Way to show solidarity for the workers!
And how about that UAW takeover of GM? That had to be really great for the workers there, right? Not really:
On Sunday, workers at UAW Local 23 rejected a UAW-proposed contract, which calls for a 50 percent reduction in workers’ wages and benefits as part of the plant’s sale to JD Norman, a former Wall Street speculator.
WOW! The UAW proposes cutting it’s own workers wages and benefits in half! I can’t imagine a non-union run GM daring to even fantasizing about such a move!
And it sounds like the those lowly drones are catching on that the union bigwigs don’t really have them as their primary concern:
“The UAW is doing this because they own stock in GM, and they want to keep their business coming in,” said Todd, a worker with ten years. “Once they finish the deal, they’ll build another 100-million-dollar golf course with our strike fund.”
As the song says, “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”
