When can we have an honest conversation about taxes?

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

Every day, every hour, we hear it.  Colorado is over taxing, Democrats want to spend more of your money, Hickenlooper raised taxes, taxes are killing our business environment.  Bennet is spending like a drunken sailor, everyone in congress is spending money like drunken sailors.  We need to lower spending and taxes.  We need to keep the tax cuts goings.  We need lower taxes to drive more business.

Facts:

Colorado is one of the lowest taxed states in the United States.

The United States is one of the lowest taxed countries among developed countries in the world.

We are among the lowest states, in one of the lowest countries in the world.

We also have one of the highest differences in the world between the haves and have nots among developed countries.

So where is this getting us:

Healthcare for our country – very low rank among all developed countries.

Education for our country – very low rank among all developed countries.

Defense – We do lead the world on this, as matter of fact, we lead most of the developed countries combined, yeah us!

But, oh JeffcoDemo, the US has the best Dr.s, the best Universities.  And there we get to the heart of the matter.  Have we decided as a country that we don’t care about the general welfare of our country and it’s all about winners and losers.  There are many who beat their chests and say that’s what makes our country great.  How are you measuring how great our country is?  I need to understand.  How come I don’t understand.  Is it nation building, we seem to be really bad at that.  Is protector of the free world?  If so, I would like to say, I care more about taking care of my neighbors and when we get that up to the world’s standards, then we can worry about protecting the rest of the world.

Sorry, I just get so tire of this one issue, taxes, being such a driver in every political conversation with no reality around how low our tax burden really is.
