    1. Oil prices up 3.7% this morning, with some analysts saying $70/barrel is likely and, depending on retaliation choices, $80/barrel is possible.

I suspect some Coloradans involved in the industry are feeling better about their oil fracking.  Natural gas is only up VERY slightly, so there won't be dancing on 17th Street.

  1. Ok so now we know why we escalated so quickly. Distract from the dumpster fire, drive up oil prices. Win win for corporations and GOPers…..everyone else loses lives, homes, safety, money.

    1. …and every high-ranking official on Capitol Hill, the Whitest House, the Pentagon, and just about everywhere else is now on the hit list.

      Pence…McConnell…Kushner…

      No one is safe.

      1. Trump seems to be fine with that:

General Qassem Soleimani has killed or badly wounded thousands of Americans over an extended period of time, and was plotting to kill many more…but got caught! He was directly and indirectly responsible for the death of millions of people, including the recent large number….

        — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 3, 2020

This could describe all sorts of US and allied government and military officials.

    1. Unfortunately, the Democratic Party purged all Bernie types over the last 30+ years, so there's no alternative to him

During those last 30+ years without the hard-core lefties, four Democratic candidates won the popular vote a total of six times (our of eight election cycles), and two of those non-Bernie Sanders type candidates won the electoral vote a total of four times.

Prior to that we had the McGovern-Mondale problem.

      1. You need an asterisk next to “won the popular vote”. Or to add in the word “plurality”. It makes it clear that you want a prize for winning by an alternate metric.

It would be a much more compelling argument of the value of the strategy if, when losing the Presidency, you managed to hold onto the House of Representatives. Though of the last 15 Congresses the Democrats have had control of the House five times and the Senate seven. And one of those Senate controls also has an asterisk because it happened due to a party switch. Not exactly screaming “electoral victory” to me.
