Bennet raises the dead!!!

  • by: NeonNurse

(Equal time day: We had a bit of fun with StrykerK2’s parody of the new Bennet add a few days back.  Now, NeonNurse strikes back with a parody of her own that’s already sparking good commentary as a dairy.   – promoted by Voyageur)

(Untied Press)– Colorado’s Democratic Party remains divided after today’s surprising revelation of US Senator Michael Bennet’s newly discovered ability to bring the dead back to life.

While many of Bennet’s followers claim they approve of the development, his detractors prefer to point out the potential down side, such as the negative effect his power could have on those trying to make their living in the funeral industry.  Some suggest that raising the dead makes a mockery of science, while others say it only proves he is in league with the forces of darkness.

“If he thinks this makes up for him not using his magical powers to force both houses of Congress to enact a single payer health care bill plus give everyone in the country a pony, he’s sadly mistaken,” said one Romanoff supporter who wished to remain anonymous. “Now we KNOW he could have done it if he really wanted to.”

The formerly deceased individual could not be reached for comment.

  1. because you can’t post a serious diary about his accomplishments as Senator because he hasn’t had any yet!

    🙂

Romanoff on the other hand has a long and distinguished record of public service and accomplishment. But that just seems to earn him scorn and derision on this site.

    1. My personal opinion is that both men have a respectable history, and both deserve respect. There have been posts that say it was a sense of entitlement that led Romanoff to enter this race, but that is the only derogatory thing about HIM that I can recall seeing on the blogs. (Feel free to enlighten me if my memory needs shaking up.)

A few of his supporters, now…that’s a different story all together. Sad to say, some of their behaviors richly deserve scorn and derision.

    2. His record is of a very conservative Democrat. That would be fine if he didn’t suddenly decide that conservative Democrats sre evil.

He touts his own record and then flips and calls similar politicians without spine.

He really trys to be everything to everybody. His condoning a negative campaign from the start that has only become more outlandish as the campaign has progressed has left credibility out in the cold.

The drum beat that everyone but him is corrupt (while refusing to name a single name outside of an  incident at a debate in Colorado Springs) rings of an known arsonist crying fire in a theater where there is no fire.

    3. But I would hardly say that Senator Bennet lacks a record of public service or accomplishment. Just because his experience is practical, as opposed to political, doesn’t mean it isn’t applicable to work in the Senate. He left private business and a high salary to help Hick fix Denver’s budget problems and then he went on to turn around DPS. That work may not have involved political games and legislation, but it did a huge service to our community.

        1. is the first step, jps.  DPS definitely turned the corner under Bennet, but it’s hard to make progress admid the kind of budget crises we now face.

          1. What steep decline was arrested by Bennet? When did this decline start? How steep was it? What is the metric or metrics that was/were in decline? What was the change from any reform Bennet instituted?

These claims are vague and I believe unsupportable. DPS is in the same situation it was in before Bennet, except he got to close a school in poor neighborhoods. What an incredible show of leadership! Reform at the expense of the least powerful and able to defend themselves.

            1. by doing nothing about Manual?

The rebuilding of Manual was successful and helped kids in that neighborhood.  You are splendidly demonstrating the soft bigotry of low expectations.

              1. how have those kids lives, or even more to the point- their educational experiences, improved by closing manual.

This was a budgetary problem more than a “save the kids” issue. manual had too few students to keep open.

So point to any study that shows the outcomes of those students was any better than before. You can’t because they don’t exist. And without any data, you’re just making shit up as people like to say on this site.

                1. that your critics cite “studies” “metrics” etc. to prove you wrong.

How about you stopping your habit of blowing 0pinions out of your ass and cite something of substance to back up your Bennet hatred.

Is that “metric” enough for you?

                  1. HS dropout, graduation, transfer rates. These should be compared and contrasted with significant DPS spending.

Its too bad DPS doesn’t provide a scorecard to the public – its funders.

                    1. they do provide them, but the people who make the claims should back them up with data.

                  2. there is nothing outrageous about asking people who claim there have been these improvements to actually back up their claims. But you can’t so you try to flip it back on me and tell me how mean I am to ask for proof of what you cliam. What a load!

                    1. You’re arguing with freakin’ Libby!  Certainly you have something better to do with your time.  Doesn’t either one of you need a root canal?

    1. I don’t think being along for the ride counts as accomplishing much. Oh, he cast votes! I get it now.

Also, he wrote letters. I remember them. I also remember he didn’t have the spine to stand behind the actual letter he wrote and support the public option when push came to shove. But it wasn’t politically expedient at the time.

And you may think a political system awash in huge sums of money is ok. You’re entitled to your opinion. But there are many of us who think it is the money that damages our system. Many who think that the Citizen’s United decision was wrong and will have a corrupting influence on our politics.

And Ray, your vitriol against Andrew has been as strong as anything I’ve seen against Bennet (with a couple of exceptions). Your attacks are unhinged and disparage Andrew’s actual record of achievement to tarnish his reputation while supporting your candidate. It’s OK. I get it. It is politics. But don’t get all high and mighty and say how Andrew is running a negative campaign while you do that. It smacks of hypocrisy.

      1. and have them reincarnate as Che Guevarra,

        Che is dead!

Conductrix never got the dates tha she says AR taught English in Nicaragua. I think it’s another rabbit out of the hat.

      2. but I’m not paid  and not for sale.

I’ve hit Romanoff hard. He spends plenty trying to hold his piece of the Latin vote,. He didn’t get the AFL-CIO, The African American vote he has to spend resources to keep. He didn’t get Clarence.

I’ve served a purpose. I haven’t been paid a dime either. If his people weren’t so vile I would have been more of a cheerleader, but that’s not what I’m good at.

Romo’s camp had this story since the first week in June. They held it to time with money reports. I don’t see where it has any legs.

It does get ridiculous when Romanoff puts out a big letter saying he never called Bennet corrupt when 2  Statesman articles refute the letter, and refute the premise.

It reminds me of the infamous checkers speech.

  3. .

can he provide restitution to the retirees whose pensions he raided, leaving them with nothing, in his stint as a corporate raider for Anschutz ?

    .

        1. For those who think Fox News is part of the liberal media?

Make up the news, get it posted on-line, then other sources can quote from it as if it were real news. I love the right-wing machine! It is so efficient. And the truth is so yesterday!

        2. I figured he was just playing “Let’s you and him fight!” It still equals out to him MSU to promote his cause, with his cause being anarchy and discord. 🙂

          1. that the sales tax exemption for Amazon and other Internet retailors, which you defend with every fiber of your subsidy hungry being, David! 😉

Is the farm bill a good thing?

I’ve yet to hear a legit argument for farming price supports.

            1. I supported bringing that in and taxing software sales. What I opposed was the rank incompetency of the Department of Revenue that I learned about once we faced this tax.

And what I was loud about was that the state needed to bring in competent leadership in the department and lay out when the tax should be collected.

Although you may have a fair point that if I want competence first, then I’m opposed to the state collecting any taxes at present 🙂

          2. Dept of Agriculture, concerns much more than supports for crop prices. Remember, Ag contains the USFS. The farm bill contains incentives to remove insect infested wood and use it productively, among other things. The farm bill annually contains $ for USFS and much comes to CO.

              1. I know you’re mad that I dropped my support for Bennet but this is ridiculous. As to a link to me website in my sig – the link is to ColoradoPols. Can you at least try to use legit facts?

                1. Don’t flatter yourself.

But if you’re not trolling for page views on your own web site, why not drop the link from your sig line?

You’re an FPE now.  Trolling for hits is bad form.

              1. the globalization of agriculture. We should be promoting sustainable indigenous agriculture.

When will the pro-globalization crowd come to the realization that it is actually not what’s best for the developing world nor the developed world.

              2. IF I plant wheat (and I do, btw) let’s say I sell it for $3 a bushel because that’s the market price.  The government may have set a target price of $4 a bushel, in which case the taxpayers will make up the extra $1.

I actually did get a subsidy check a few months ago.  If I remember correctly, it was for a princely $56. It’s debateable if such long term subsidies are any good (I’ve long argued they do more harm than good.)  But they don’t hurt consumers or exporters in other countries by raising market prices.  (Obviously, consumers are also taxpayers, but your point about hurting poor countries isn’t really true.)

The key point is that in recent years, the farm bill has gotten Greener, especially in such areas as the Conservation Reserve program.  I’d very happily get rid of farm subsidies, but an 80 year record of dependency isn’t easy to break.

As to internet sales, btw, I’ve long felt only a federal law would work.  For simplicity’s sake, I would assign a fixed sales tax to each state — made up of a weighted average of their local sales taxes.

Spend $100 at Amazon and you’d pay, say, $6 to Colorado.  Every quarter, the retailer would send a check to Colorado.  The Colorado treasurer, in turn, would divide it among the jurisdictions, using  a formula weighted by population and sales tax.  That way, everybody from Jeffco open space to RTd could get a slice of the action without a nightmare for retailers.

I don’t know any index, even zip plus four, that perfectly reflects the maze of local jurisdictions.

Besides the money, I want an internet sales tax to protect local retailers.   If I buy a $1,000 computer from Office Depot, I’ll pay $80 or so in taxes.   But I could buy the same computer from so on-line retailer and save that money.  (In fact, I just bought a new one from Dell and paid the tax, since they have a presence here.)

An equalization tax of, say, 6 percent (reflecting that unincorporated areas of Colorado has little or no sales tax) might not wipe out all that disparity but it would make it insignificant in terms of driving buying decisions.   Sales tax policy should be neutral among retailers, and the present system discriminates against local retailers.

But it can only be done well with federal legislation, because of the U.S. Surpeme Court decision in Bella Hess and subsequent litigation.   The court found no constitutional barrier to collecting such taxes but ruled Congress would have to provide authorizing legislation.  (gets back to federal supremacy clause in interstate commerce, etc.)

                1. But I’d settle for the State of Colorado telling me if we should collect under the conditions of each sale. I sent them the conditions of 12 sales we had and for 8 they did not know if we should collect.

                2. so producers can be assured of being able to sustain themselves is not an inherently bad thing, especially when producers were much smaller family enterprises that could be easily bankrupted by a single bad growing season or price collapse.

I do not believe these same mechanisms should apply to ADM or ConAgra though as these companies pockets are plenty deep enough to withstand the vicissitudes of price volatility or bad growing seasons. I am not in support of these subsidies going to large, corporate producers.

      1. .

not even the libruls at NewsMax are gonna let this juicy tidbit slide.

I saw a recruitment on Craigslist for a gig playing one of the retirees he scorched.  I applied, but I’m not old enough.

        .

      2. .

Pretty funny, but too highbrow for me.  I miss a lot of sophisticated humor (or, in some cases, it’s not that funny.)

But in this case, once I understood that you were highlighting similarities, rather than contrasts, I eventually chuckled.

        .

  4. and thanks for remembering United Press.  I worked for United Press International straight out of college and never forgot my days as a unipresser.

        1. was someone saying they were “chuffed into little mint balls”, which gave me a sort of multi-sensory mental image I’ve never forgotten. But I leave off the mint balls, myself, because I don’t want to be a copycat.

    1. That’s exactly the principle I was aiming at. I think some people around here would be in deep trouble if their life ever depending on them saying one good think about Bennet. :/

        1. If I only liked people whose political opinions matched my own, I sure couldn’t have gone to my family reunion last month!

And Duke, you AREN’T one of the people on my mental list of rude and deranged extremists. You probably know that already, but I just thought I would mention it. 🙂

  5. I’m truly disappointed in this communities failure to discuss the following story…

Bennet intern fired over pay-to-play email

*As primary heats up, Bennet tries to close the enthusiasm gap

*Bennet confirms knowledge of White House contact with Romanoff

DENVER – Sen. Michael Bennet’s campaign Thursday fired an intern who sent an email a month ago that appears to be offering one-on-one conversations with the senator in exchange for specific donation amounts.

The intern, Jeffrey Garofano, 22, was dismissed by the campaign after the Wall Street Journal, the first news outlet to receive the email, contacted Bennet’s campaign about it.

In the email, obtained by FOX31 Thursday afternoon, Garofano, a student at Vermont’s Middlebury College, responds to an inquiry from a Yale student named Caitlin Fitzpatrick, who had inquired if an associate, Howard Holme, could speak with Bennet to advocate for the passage of the Open Fuel Standards Act.

Garofano’s response: “There are upcoming house parties and events in the area, but it would be difficult to have an extended conversation with the Senator at one of them. With a donation of $2400 or more, Howard can schedule a one-on-one hour-long meeting with the Senator. Alternatively, Howard could host an event for $5000 or more, which would give him a better chance to lobby Michael.”

    1.   Sorry to violate the no outing rule, but we now know Libertad and StrykerK2 are the same poster!

Just kidding, Libby.  Now that I’m back working downtown, what’s the chance of us getting together for that beer or, at least, a coffee?

    2. I’m truly disappointed in this communities failure to discuss the following story…

You mean except for the couple of hundred comments in several diaries so far?

      1. What’s one young naive fool going to do when he ever tries to get another job.

Can’t be smart though. He could have the opposition pay him nicely to do what he did for free.

        1. You’re insinuating that he could have had the Romanoff campaign pay him to sabotage Bennets’ campaign.

Your hatred of AR must be a terrible burden.

I guess your sig line is about YOU.

              1. unless you are Rays’ sockpuppet, let him answer for himself.

He could have the opposition pay him nicely to do what he did for free.

This statement clearly implies that, had he wanted to, he COULD have gotten the Romanoff campaign to pay him to work as a mole to get the Bennet campaign in trouble.

That, of course, implies the Romanoff campaign WOULD do such a thing.

This sort of lame, accusatory bullshit is coming from both sides and it is…wait for it…STOOPID. It is also childish and irritating.

And now who wants to say…I know I am, but what are you?

                Hurry, August 10th.

                1. but probably because they didn’t think of it. And if they had thought of it, they couldn’t afford to pull it off. But I certainly wouldn’t put it past the win-at-all-cost campaign Romanoff is running. See this is the problem with dirty campaigns…after awhile people just assume there isn’t a low you wouldn’t go to. And before any Romanoff supporters respond with feigned righteous indignation, spare me.

                  1. Why should we not call bullshit, bullshit? Why should anyone who supports AR listen to anything you have to say? You won’t even give us credit for feeling “real” righteous indignation. What… we can only feign indignation?

Is that because we are all so evil we can’t really feel anything? Or is it because we are all so dishonest we can’t even be truthful to ourselves?  Your rhetoric destroys your credibility.

And what the hell are you butting in for? Where is Ray? Are you and peacemonger both Rays’ sockpuppets?

Oh…trust that I will certainly not “spare” you. You post ignorant shit…you takes your chances, Horace.

                    1. Are you Ray? If not, you are a buttinski.

Have I challenged your right, nay privilege, of posting on this site? No.

I have tried to explain to you that you do not get respect on this site because you show up with a catchy username (I am a big fan of the “Green Lantern”)and spout useless and adolescent nastiness? Yes.

Why don’t you try being respectful, for a change, and see how that plays here?
