Civil Unions in Hawaii vetoed

This totally sucks – Lingle vetoes civil unions bill

Gov. Linda Lingle announced today that she will veto the civil unions bill, describing the measure as “marriage by another name.”

Lingle said the legislative maneuvering by the House, which brought the bill to a vote on the last day of session, was wrong and that the issue is of such societal importance that it should involve all the people of Hawaii.

Good thing she wasn’t a governor when we passed the constitutional amendment ending slavery.

  1. this is just more incentive for me to move to hawaii and run elections there for the rest of my life once 2012 is over.  it’s an incredibly beautiful place, with an amateurish campaign environment, and it’s nice to know that idiots like this will easily get the pants beaten off of them once a professional or two shows up.

    1. democrats running for Governor (Mufi Hannemann) is on record as saying he would also have vetoed the bill.  Only Neil Abercrombie, the other democrat in the race is on record as supporting, not only civil unions, but full marriage equality.
