On Friday, thousands of people took to the streets of cities across the world to peacefully demand better from the people in charge–increasingly, my generation–in addressing the great problem facing humanity today: human-caused global climate change.

My generation grew up in a fossil-fuel dependent world, but we were beginning to understand the consequences of runaway carbon emissions. The sense of invincibility we lose with youth was accompanied for us by the realization that our whole planet was vulnerable to our society’s bad judgment, and that someday soon we would need to make responsible changes to prevent the prosperity we take for granted from wrecking the environment for coming generations.

Our kids say it’s past time to act. That’s why Colorado passed legislation this year putting our state on course to reduce carbon emissions by 90% over the next few decades. No matter what happens in Washington, the whole world is coming together to take on this challenge before it’s too late. And in Colorado, we’re working on the solution instead of making excuses.

Thanks for everything you do to fight for our shared progressive values. Here are more great ways to get involved for the week of September 23:

Help protect free local news in Colorado Springs: Colorado Springs readers, take a moment right now to contact King Soopers supermarket management and urge them to keep free community newspapers like the Colorado Springs Independent available in their stores. A recent decision by parent company Kroger could result in free newspapers across the country being pulled from store shelves. Click here to help!
