Politics Verbatim, a project of The Center for Investigative Reporting, has a really cool online tool available that tracks all of the on-the-record statements made by California gubernatorial candidates Jerry Brown (D) and Meg Whitman (R), serving them up in a nice searchable interface that lets you compare and contrast their on-the-record positions on a variety of topics.
Now, when does Colorado get one of these?

When someone is willing to pay for it.
That’s a whole different time and place than when someone thinks it’s cool.
Coloradans deserve everything cool. First. We’re a donor state, we oughtta get something in return for our generosity to Alaska and Alabama.
If it turns out to have an impact, then roll it our in additional states.
Since leaving the Colorado Independent and launching WesternCitizen.com last winter, I’ve been awarded a 2010-11 Knight Fellowship at Stanford.
My project for the forthcoming year is to build prototype mobile and Web applications, like Politics Verbatim, that advance watchdog journalism and civic engagement.
I’m looking for great ideas and site beta testers for the first round of open source tools.
What do want — other than a Where’s Waldo-style Doug Bruce locator?
how does this work if they just don’t talk to the press on the record?
Seems like this wouldn’t help too much with Norton…. 🙂
