What you can do to fight back this week (August 26)

For almost five years now, the people of Colorado have been trying to get Sen. Cory Gardner’s attention. After Gardner barely won his U.S. Senate seat on a campaign of deception and promises he never intended to keep, our state has walked away from the Gardner’s far-right party and agenda in every election.

Cory Gardner knows he’s the most vulnerable incumbent Senator in America. That’s why he spent the entire August recess hiding from the voters of Colorado while pretending to interact with us with tightly scripted appearances at friendly businesses and surprise stops on a few Main Streets. But it’s not enough: it’s been over 600 days since Gardner had to answer the hard questions in an unscripted public town hall with sufficient public notice.

Last week, Progress Now Colorado was honored to join up with our friends at Indivisible, America Votes, Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition, Conservation Colorado, NRDC Action Fund, Protect Our Care, Planned Parenthood Votes Colorado, and people just like you as we toured the state with “Cardboard Cory” to call out Sen. Gardner’s lack of accessibility to the voters he represents. From Fort Collins to Durango we met crowds of great folks and made a huge splash in local media all along the way.

Read about last week’s Cardboard Cory “Since U Been Gone Tour” in outlets all over the state: The Fort Collins Coloradoan, Greeley Tribune, Durango Herald, Westword, Colorado Public Radio, Huffington Post, KRDO-TV Colorado Springs, KJCT-TV Grand Junction, and Shareblue Media! And thanks again to everyone who came out to make your voices heard.

Here are more great ways to make a difference for the week of August 26!

Gun Safety Town Hall in Aurora

We cannot accept gun violence as our reality. We must join together and fight for safer schools and communities. As students head back to school, join former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, Rep. Jason Crow, Congressman Joe Neguse, and Congressman Ed Perlmutter for a conversation with local leaders, survivors, and activists on federal gun laws, school safety and more.

2019 One Colorado For All Statewide Tour – Highlands Ranch

As the state’s largest advocacy organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Coloradans and their families, we’ve worked hard for the legal and political advancements we’ve achieved. And – there’s still so much work to do. As many of us know, legal equality and representation in elected offices does not eliminate the lived equality gap that affects many of us in our day-to-day lives. We are excited to announce our 2019 One Colorado For All Statewide Tour with seventeen stops all across the state, taking us from Grand Junction to Fort Collins, from Steamboat to Alamosa, from Pueblo to Aspen.

Where: Highlands Ranch Library, 9292 Ridgeline Blvd, Highlands Ranch
When: Monday, August 26 at 7:00pm

CFIR Spotlight On! Not One More Defund Hate and GEO Detention

Please join us to learn about the Defund Hate Campaign. Members of the Not1More Table traveled to DC last month to get trained up on how the budget process works, meet with members of the Colorado delegation and engage in a powerful action in a Senate rotunda. These members will share how the budget process works, and how we can influence it. Members of Colorado’s People’s Alliance will share how work to close the GEO detention facility in Aurora connects to Defund Hate. We will plan meetings for the August recess to influence the 2020 ICE and CBP (Customs and Border Patrol) budgets. In the last 3 years the Defund Hate Campaign has blocked $7.2 billion going to fund immigration enforcement. Join us to learn how you can be a part of blocking more monies to ICE and CBP.
