“For him who confesses, shams are over and realities have begun; he has exteriorized his rottenness. If he has not actually got rid of it, he at least no longer smears it over with a hypocritical show of virtue–he lives at least upon a basis of veracity.”

  1. who Knew Barbera Bush (the Daughter) would not just think differently than her parents but be rational, sane and connected to reality too!

      1. because they then are the “establishment.”

        some sharp thinkers there… /sarcasm

like I said they sure did like bush so much so they never came out when he was POTUS.

        1. The tea party didn’t exist in 2004, so I don’t know how they voted for George Bush. Unless maybe you’re referring to gays, not tea partiers.

    1. “Booby trap”, “Bush whack” or “Gorilla” Journalism should be dealt with harshly.

Let the “student” get a Degree, a press pass, or otherwise proper Credentials then ask his questions in a proper setting.

You bet your ass if Sarah Palin were approached like that. her thugs would break bones…

      1. The assault on this guy for asking a Congressman a question on the sidewalk is insane.

And when he says he’s a student – that should be the end of it.

Ignore it or answer it – the assault is over the line.

        1. There is a second angle of this alleged assault posted on the Internet.  Before I condemn it completely, I want to know if this is unedited and otherwise (off-camera) unprovoked.  There appears to be more at work here than a simple student reporter getting cuffed by a Congressman.

          1. Bob Etheridge Apologizes:

Washington, DC, Jun 14 – U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) released the following statement on the viral video which appeared on the internet today:

“I have seen the video posted on several blogs.  I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction and I apologize to all involved.  Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina, I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response.  I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse.”

            Rep. Bob Etheridge (NC-02)

From the claims beginning to make the rounds, this may have been a “copycat” attempt at an edited hit piece a la the ACORN fake pimp/hooker video.  As it turns out, no editing was needed – the Congressman handled the situation poorly and has apologized.

            1. .

I think the video shows the Congressman acting appropriately toward a couple of punks who ambushed him, staking out his route and hassling him.

I don’t understand why he apologized.

              .

              1. I’m not 100% on the whole thing.  The interviewer was easily within arm’s reach of the Congressman – something I might be inclined to think a Congressman in today’s world might be wary of.  OTOH, the Congressman – at least as far as I can see from the video – walked up to the interviewer and turned to face him while still within easy arm’s reach.

At this point my judgment on the whole incident is that it was a Breitbart put-up job, and it deserves as much respect as the hack job he did on ACORN (with edits to make it seem like the interviewer was in a pimp suit while talking to the ACORN employee).  If the Congressman feels an apology is warranted, then maybe it is – that’s his call.

              2. There’s nothing appropriate about grabbing the guy’s arm, not letting go and shoving the guy. “Do you support the Obama administration?” is hardly “hassling” the member of Congress, who is, after all, a public servant and answerable to the public. This is just cut-and-dried.

                1. .

but I see a Congressman as pretty vulnerable to whackos in the general public.  This guy was alone, confronted by at least two younger, stronger men.

Me, I would probably have scurried away, looking like they had intimidated me, which I think is exactly what they were hoping for.

This Congressman is obviously aware of these ambushes happening to his peers, and didn’t want to look cowardly.  He was also defending the dignity of the position he holds.

If there isn’t a law against these sorts of confrontations of public officials today, I’ll bet there is one soon.  They are low-class.  I presume the perpetrators in this case fancy themselves as “conservatives.”  I don’t think it’s very conservative to disrespect and implicitly threaten elder public servants.

                  .

                  1. .

I’m down in Somalia Springs where we don’t even know if we have a Congressional Representative, because the guy that was elected has NEVER been seen, except in photos on the avalanche of franked mailings he sends out.  We think he used to hang with Chaney in that “undisclosed location,” but where has he been the last 2 years ?

So even though Congressman Polis is dead wrong on just about every matter of policy, I have to admit to admiring the guy for facing his constituents.  He’s got guts, and I hope some undercover security.

                    .

                  2. I am not condoning what he did at all, but its obvious he scared the shit out of those kids and seemed to hold his own rather well.

                    1. I suppose if you like violence and totalitarian government it was pretty good. Fidel is good about suppressing media inquiries too.

        2. No brainer here. Wonder how Froward felt when his progressive hero Mike Stark engaged in the same type of journalism and got treated the same way by George Allen’s camp.

            1. http://www.democraticundergrou

Because I believe there was more than one incident and let’s not forget his spectacular stalking of Bill O’Reilly at his house. Now that was super classy.

And no, I don’t think Stark deserved the treatment he received anymore than this kid did with Etheridge. If these people can’t control themselves physically, perhaps they should be in a less stressful job than politics.

              1. definitely close enough for the Congressman to manhandle him.

Me personally, I’m into a bit of mutual respect – journalists shouldn’t feel the need to get in their targets’ faces, and Congressmen shouldn’t feel the need to rough up people asking uncomfortable questions.  If you can’t be decent to one another…

        1. RG YOU caught that. no one else did.

My position is asking a loaded question like “do you support Obamas radical policies?” on the street, then hiding behind “I am a student”. That itself is horseshit. It is like crying “I am under 18” when faced with an adult situation.

          1. “Do you fully support the Obama agenda.” If that’s a loaded question for a North Carolina Democrat, then maybe Etheridge shouldn’t be walking the streets where the public can ask him questions.

      1. To me anyway, it looked like the funnel was pretty far away from the actual mountain. It’s still a high elevation, but it’s not like it was on the peak–or even on the downslope. It looked like it was between the camera and the base.

  2. According to the American Board of Medical Specialities (via MSNBC reporting), Rand Paul is not an AMA board certified opthamologist, and hasn’t been since 2005.  Rather, when his certification came up for renewal in 2005, he resurrected a group he and his wife created called the National Board of Opthamology and certified himself under their “credentials”.

Paul has been running as a candidate as a “board certified” opthamologist, and practices at two facilities that require board certification – a term which is limited to AMA approved certification boards.

Paul and his spokesman have refused direct comments on his certification and on the alternate “board” he created.

    1. Rand Paul is the darling of a group of Americans who put little if any stock in actual expertise and intelligence.

He’s like Palin, except that instead of seeing Russia from his house, he conducts opthalmology from his kitchen.

Gee, “Dr.” Paul, I think I’ll become a Board-Certified Neurosurgeon. As soon as I finish designing my own license on Microsoft Word.

      1. He was, until the end of 2005, certified by the American Board of Opthamology.  He says he formed his own board because he didn’t like that older opthamologists were grandfathered in to a “no need to renew” clause, but younger members needed to renew – presumably including himself.

Still, he’s not AMA board certified now, and he’s been either lying or evasive about it.

        1. It’s the ABMS (American Board of Medical Specialties) which governs board certification.  The AMA is a lobbying group and a cartel which makes money off CPT codes.  People blame them for the small number of med schools as well, and they have an indirect role there.  I haven’t belonged since they flip-flopped on the abortion ban, but they’re not responsible for everything (good or bad) that happens in medicine.

  3. I think it’s relevant to see what stock, if any, to put in your endorsement of Ken Buck…

Can you please provide us with information about exactly what work Scott McInnis did for the Hasan Family Foundation? We have been told that McInnis was paid $150,000 to write a series of articles on water policy. No such articles have been published, apparently, but it would be nice to see the unpublished end product – if there was any.

It just seems a little odd that a generalist like McInnis would be paid so much, from such a source, for such an end product. If we can get specifics and evidence, that would put people’s minds at ease.

    1. .

      Hmmm.

So, this line of inquiry is to put people’s minds at ease.  Up ’til now, I thought it was a fishing expedition to find evidence of impropriety on the former Congressman’s part.

      Thanks for clearing that up.

      .

        1. please explain whether you have stopped beating your wife.

IF you can provide specifics and evidence, it will put my mind at ease.

Seriously, guy, you’re on a roll today.  I always respect you even when I fiercely disagree, but you seem especially sharp today.

  4. Obama’s Treasury Dept Working To Defeat Derivatives Proposal ‘Of Utmost Importance’ To Reforming Wall Street

A Senate proposal to force banks to shed their lucrative yet risk-laden derivatives units — which is vehemently opposed by Wall Street — is gaining steam, picking up the support of some regional Federal Reserve chiefs with more on the way.

Yet President Barack Obama’s Treasury Department, led by Timothy Geithner, continues to oppose the measure, Senate aides say, who add that Treasury is supporting Wall Street over Main Street by opposing the measure considered of “utmost importance” to financial stability.

The problem with staffing Treasury primarily with people who have worked with the large financial institutions “because they’re the only ones who understand the system” is you end up with this. I think Geithner & Co truly think they are doing what is best for the country, just as I think Dick Cheney truly believes what he was doing was best for the country.

They are so much a part of that world that they are incapable of taking an independent view. And if they prevail, then we face another great recession in 10 or so years.
