On Friday, the 2019 session of the Colorado legislature comes to an end. It’s already been a massive success with new laws to protect the public from oil and gas drilling and gun violence, increase funding for education and transportation, protect workers from discrimination and unequal pay, and much more! If you haven’t already, please contact your Colorado Senator and ask them to SUPPORT House Bill 19-1261, the critical Climate Action Plan bill. And watch your inbox for alerts that could come in these final few hectic days.

Community Hearing to Protect the Gray Wolf!

Join us at the Alliance Center on April 29th at 6:30 PM for your opportunity to provide informed, thoughtful, and powerful verbal comments in support of the full recovery of gray wolves in the US, including Colorado. US Fish and Wildlife Services (FWS) has proposed to delist gray wolves in the lower-48 states. Our scientists know that today wolves are only found in about 10% of their historic range. At one time, wolves inhabited every state in the continental US and their populations numbered in the millions. Now, they only occur in about 10 states with numbers less than 6,000. Wolves are not recovered.

Faithful Tuesdays at the Colorado State Capitol

Faithful Tuesdays is a diverse coalition of leaders, organizations and community members who are committed to adding a deeper, moral dimension to the public policymaking process in Colorado. Our focus is to advance a faith narrative and collaborative process that supports a just economy, promotes equity, and eradicates racism in Colorado. Our work will forward a unifying narrative uplifting our common faith call to build human dignity in our state.

9to5 Colorado: May Day Rally: Aurora City Hall

Many of the residents of Denver Meadows and Colorado are working more than 40 hours for wages that aren’t enough to cover the skyrocketing rent prices, many immigrants who are the backbone and large part of the work force aren’t able to afford to live where they work and continue to be pushed out of their communities. On this May Day and first of the month -when the rent is due- a community who has advocated and organized for more than 3 year will rally at the aurora city council steps and declare that this May Day Denver Meadows residents who are renters, workers, and part of this community will continue to fight for housing justice in Aurora and in Colorado.

The Denver Press Club: Guest Bartender: DA Beth McCann

Join us as Denver District Attorney Beth McCann – Denver’s first female district attorney – jumps behind the DPC bar to raise funds for The Empowerment Program, which provides education, employment assistance, health, housing referrals, and support services for women who are in disadvantaged positions due to incarceration, poverty, homelessness, HIV/AIDS infection, and/or involvement in the criminal justice system.

Mueller Investigation: Listen, Learn, Discuss

The release of a redacted version of the report into Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference into the 2016 elections is not enough. Mueller’s investigation resulted in 199 criminal charges against 37 defendants, and laid out a compelling case that the President committed obstruction of justice. Join us for a discussion of this ongoing constitutional crisis and to develop next steps to hold Donald Trump and every member of his campaign who committed a crime accountable.

ADL 2019 Governor’s Holocaust Remembrance Program

ADL’s Governor’s Holocaust Remembrance Program is one of the largest in the United States and allows Coloradans of all faiths to come together to honor Holocaust survivors, remember those who perished, educate the community about this horrible crime against humanity and translate those lessons into contemporary action. The 2019 program will feature a conversation with Holocaust Survivor Gene Klein and his daughter, Dr. Jill Klein. The program includes a memorial ceremony and has traditionally featured a special Message to Colorado from the Governor. Winners of ADL’s “A Tribute to Moral Courage” student essay contest will also be recognized. For more information about the speaker or the program, please visit the event website.

Community Town Hall with Governor Jared Polis

The Colorado Springs Business Journal, Colorado Springs Independent, Southeast Express and Pikes Peak Bulletin will host a free town hall with Gov. Jared Polis, 5:15-7 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at Sierra High School, 2250 Jet Wing Drive, Colorado Springs. While the event is free and open to the public, we expect a large crowd.
