You’ve probably seen on the local news by now that Republicans are once again talking about recalls against progressive lawmakers in targeted districts around the state–and even a recall campaign against Colorado’s recently-elected Gov. Jared Polis.

In Ian Silverii’s Sunday Denver Post column, here’s what he had to say about this effort:

There are anti-Semites working to recall the first openly gay man and first Jewish man to hold the governor’s office, an anti-gay “pastor” leading recall efforts against an LGBTQ caucus member, and two Latinx southern Colorado Democrats also face recall threats over a gun safety bill they didn’t even vote for.

Behind these recall petitions, are bigots.

These recalls aren’t about policy. They’re not about corruption, bribery, or any of the high-bar crimes the recall process exists to remedy. They are an opportunistic and cynical abuse of a constitutional power, exploited by extremely sore losers to overturn the results of an election they lost fair and square.

Last November, Colorado voters overwhelmingly elected a progressive governor and majority in the legislature to get things done. In 2019, our lawmakers are delivering on that promise with one of the most impactful legislative sessions in years. We’re going to make life better for millions of Coloradans, and the lies the right is telling will be proven false by results everyone will be able to see. We’re less than a month away from the end of the 2019 session of the Colorado legislature. Here are a few important bills making their way through the process this week that you can help pass with your support:

On Wednesday in the House Health and Insurance Committee, help support a crucial bill to increase Colorado’s bottom-ranked childhood immunization rate. House Bill 19-1312 will improve the tracking of opt-outs from the requirement to immunize school-age children and standardize the process for claiming exemptions. On Thursday, help reduce the cost of prescription drugs in Colorado in the House Finance Committee. House Bill 19-1296 makes a number of changes to existing law to report on the cost of prescription drugs and help consumers benefit from drug rebate and cost sharing programs. Also Thursday, SUPPORT a bipartisan bill to increase eligibility for the sealing of criminal records. House Bill 19-1275 will make it easier for defendants who have completed all of the terms of their sentence or diversion agreement to have their record sealed so they can rejoin productive society. FAMLI Rally and Lobby Day

Thank you all for your continued support for The Family and Medical Leave Insurance Act! As most of you know we had to postpone our rally in March due to inclement weather. But spring is in full swing so let’s get back out there and champion for Colorado families! The Lobby Day will take place from 8AM to 11AM followed by a rally on the West Steps of the Capitol from 11:30AM to 12:30PM.

Denver #DefundDisaster National Day of Action

Fossil fuel projects don’t just need governmental approval to advance their planet-warming plans—they also need money. Behind every new fossil fuel project lies a private bank – most often JPMorgan Chase or Wells Fargo – that is financing the destruction of our climate. If we can stop that flow of money, we will stop these climate disaster projects – like fracking, tar sands oil, coal and and the KXL and DAPL pipelines. So on April 10th, we will take bold, collective action to hold these big banks accountable and remind the world that corporate profits must not come at the expense of our climate, ecosystems, and human rights.

Press Conference & Senate Hearing for Rent Stabilization

We are so thrilled that SB 19-225 Authorize Local Governments to Stabilize Rents is set to be heard in the senate state affairs committee SCR 357 at the Colorado State Capitol on Wednesday April 10th!. 9to5 Colorado: Hearing for New Rights for Mobile Home Owners at the Capitol

9to5 has been working on issues related to mobile home owners now for about 4 years. We have worked with state legislators to pass more legislation to protect homeowners. This year we are excited that Representative Hooton is running a bill about this issue.
