Diggs Brown pushes old Pelosi urban legend, with a twist

(Just make the stuff up, Diggs–how does this compare with CD-4 opponent Cory Gardner’s birther-enabling? – promoted by Colorado Pols)

A widely circulated — and debunked — e-mail urban legend has accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of demanding a 757 from the Air Force to fly her back and forth to San Francisco. You can see background here:

http://www.snopes.com/politics…

Republican 4th Congressional District candidate Diggs Brown spun that tale at a Republican gathering in Denver on Friday, but he added a personal embellishment. In Brown’s telling, Pelosi jacked a 757 that was supposed to be used by HIS troops in Africa. Oh, and Pelosi spends $100,000 a month “on booze” to feed Mr. Pelosi’s drinking problem.

The comment was made at a meeting of the Colorado Republican Business Coalition, though no press was there. But in this post-Macaca world, there was at least one digital audio recorder present, and the recording made its way to me on Saturday. Highlights from my Coloradoan story below the fold.

In response to a Coloradoan request for documentation to support the claims, Brown campaign manager Jeff Jensen said, “Diggs apparently misspoke while taking questions off-the-cuff at a private meeting.”

Andy Stone, a spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said: “These lies and dishonorable distortions are exactly what we expect of Republicans in a competitive primary. Coloradans deserve better.”

    1. ….in use since 2002 have recorders built in.  Pretty common now, not so much then.

Once I felt a particular supervisor and I were going to have an, um, difficult relationship I recorded all our monthly meetings.  My cell phone/recorder just sat on her desk between us.

As some old timers here know, we did part ways, meaning I got fired.  I never used those recordings but it would have taken only a slight twist of circumstances where something might have been of value.

  1. Pelosi, with her single long term successful marriage (since 1962) and having been an exemplary, traditional, costume sewing, cookie baking Mom to five kids who were grown before she entered elected politics, is the embodiment of all those family values conservative Republicans are always carrying on about.

The demonization of Nancy Pelosi and adulation of Rush Scum Bag Limbaugh by the alleged family values crowd shows how hollow and manipulative the GOP’s supposed devotion to family values really is.  For that matter, look at the Obamas.  Even HRC’s researchers couldn’t come up with any dirt on the Obama marriage. Apparently all they could uncover was that he adores her and prefers spending free time in the company his wife and girls. He even likes his mother-in-law. A lot.

If the GOP really cared about traditional family values, the Pelosis and Obamas would be the very families they would hold up as shining examples.  The sole purpose of all their blather on the whole subject is to distract low information blue collar Americans from the reality based world in which the GOP is the party of the true wealth and power elite, always ready to help that elite grab more of the pie while shrinking the middle class, not the government, to bathtub drowning size.

    1. Thanks big cat.  Cogent observations of true hypocrites in the service of big money.

Maybe Diggs can be forgiven for having a Palin moment but he doesn’t seem cut out to be a representative.  Lying for votes is considered poor form except for Republicans.  Then it is an art form until they get caught.  The tools of the digital age are invaluable to exposing this kind of Palin silliness.
