Obama's Speech

  •
  • by: Sharon Hanson

Obama said in his speech last night that he understands our anxiety. But anxiety isn’t what I feel. I’m disgusted. How dare he appoint Bernanke and Geithner? How dare he waste an entire year trying to get Republican support for HCR only to have the final product be a total give away to the insurance and pharmaceutical companies and how dare he stand up there and talk the talk but become paralyzed when it comes to the walk. I want results and I want them now.  Obama and the Democrats risk losing many mid-term Democratic seats if progressives and independents don’t see results.

And don’t even get me started on the Republicans and their trickle down and free market theories that have destroyed the middle-class and enriched the mega-corporations that take and take but never give anything back not even a trickle.  I could never understand how Americans could ever be happy with a trickle and how they could have bought into that theory in the first place.  Our laws and regulations enforced using middle-class tax dollars protect mega-corporations from harsh competition. You see it in the banking industry, telecom, oil and energy, cable, big agriculture, all the insurance industries and the pharmaceutical companies.  All are protected by our government through patents and regulations that favor these industries and cost us tax payers billions to protect them while they ship our jobs overseas and poison us with their toxic substances and bankrupt us with their predatory loans and loan shark fees and astronomical interest rates while at the same time polluting our waterways and destroying our mountains and mainland. For these giant rich corporations free market policies do not apply, free market is only for the rest of us – that is small businesses, the poor and middle-class where the ravishes of competing with cheap labor in China and India have taken their toll on middle America.   We can’t compete with China and their anti-competitive policies and yet our economists tell Americans it’s all about the free market and it’s the only way we can stay competitive – this is a flat out lie. When are Americans going to wake up?

Let’s draft Bernie Sanders to run against Obama. Now there is a Senator for all Americans. He is a politician that represents the people not special interests.
