My Holiday Fantasy

  •
  • by: peacemonger

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the House,

no legislator spoke, not even Max Baucus.

The public option was gone from all talk of health care,

in hopes that Americans were too tired to care.

Congress was nestled all snug in their beds,

while corporate donations danced in their heads.

Pelosi in California and Reid in Sin City,

cheered the Senate’s passed bill, ‘tho parts were still shitty.

When back at the White House there arose such a clatter,

Michelle asked Barack, “Barry, what is the matter?”

He went to his computer and plugged in a flash,

re-booted his laptop because it had crashed.

Thoughts of Ben Nelson and Olympia Snowe

prevented his sleep, so he surfed to and fro.

When, what to his “googling” eyes should appear,

a map for reform at the start of the year.

With help from DeGette, Wasserman and Weiner,

the health care reform bill could still be a winner.

Add back anti-trust, the public option and more;

shove the individual mandate right out the door.

Give Kucinich’s ammendment a real fighting chance,

Single Payer, you know, well — it works great in France!

“Now, Polis and Markey and Salazar and Wexler,

We’re counting on you to make this thing better.”

“Go away John McCain, Joe Lieberman, Bart Stupak,

dash away, dash away; we don’t ever want you back.”

So Barack sent some emails to the ones he could count on,

reminding them of the coat-tails they once rode in on.

So back up the hill the Congress did go,

they found their convictions and they put on a show.

We cheered from our homes as we read in the paper,

that Barack put his foot down on this little caper.

He meant what he said, and he said what he meant,

so the Dems fell in-line, and that’s how it went.

We heard him exclaim at the end of the night,

“Happy Health Care to all, after all, it’s your right!”

Author’s Note: The Senate bill was a good first step; Senators Bennet and Udall fought hard to get it. Now we have to fight hard to make it better before it becomes law. Please call Congresswoman Betsy Markey and others every day until we get the health care Americans need and deserve!

Happy Holidays everyone!
