I brainstorm with nothing but net praise and admiration for this site. By FAR it blows away the discussion boards and blogs at DenverPost and other print papers online. It’s better than any other political blog focused on Colorado, of which I am aware. There may be others.
But I think some minor improvements could be made.
In no particular order
– when a diary and it’s comments get long, it’s hard to find just the new comments. there should be a way to either skip just to the new ones, or to make the red “new” searchable by my browser
– It would be great to post audio sometimes.
– In addition to the Bold, Italic and Quote, it would be nice to have buttons for underline and hyperlink.
– chat function for members signed on might be good, only if the recipient could opt out or block some users
– the “search” should allow multiple screens: Eg, search comments by MADCO, made in September 2009, including text Lieberman
– Threads should close at some defined point. Every now and then I follow something into the past and see comments made weeks after the original thread was energized Start it over man, not way back in the archive
– likewise polls
– sig lines shouldn’t change all the way back to forever

You should be able to use your browser’s “find” function (Ctrl-F or Apple-F), then search for “[new]”, as the bracketed word doesn’t appear anywhere else on the page but for new posts.
A hyperlink button would be a great addition.
Searchable “red new” would be amazing.
I’m constantly shocked how frequently variations of the word “new” seem to be used in 150+ post threads.
“[new]”
or even just “[n”
That only appears on new posts.
Now I’ll make sure everyone reads my posts.
It works! i works!
Fix the typo in the title. 🙂
I think a lot of these improvements that you’re talking about are potentially impossible to do in the Soap Blox platform. I’ve definitely had similar thoughts, because there are a lot of blogs that allow you to navigate new comments. For the most part, there aren’t that many posts that draw 100+ comments, which is the point where navigating posts becomes somewhat difficult–for me anyway. One blog that does this is Purple Row, which is a great Rockies blog.
Soap Blox is one of the best blogging platforms I’ve seen, but like anything it has its pros and cons. For my money (all $0 I spend to blog here) COPols is the best around.
My spell check fails me- and I’m an idiot.
Click on your diary. Underneath the title is a link that says “edit diary”. You can then change the name of this diary to Suggested Improvements to ColoradoPols.com.
I knew I would be glad I posted this even though I may come off looking like an idiot.
I wish more people would ask how to use the site–even the people who’ve been posting here forever, and still can’t grasp some of the features.
At least you know now, and knowing is half the battle.
but don’t get an answer. Like what is the image function for on the profile page. I’ve tried uploading images before but do not know where they go after that. And what does it take to get a link on Pols “relevant link” column? There are good blogs here on the western slope that are “relevant”.
Make creating a link a button function like the bold, italic, quote.
Give a few of us the delete spam function
Stop logging us out if we use a different computer than one we used last time.
I usually open a diary in Daily Kos, write it up there because it’s so much easier using their platform than Soap Blox and much easier to create links, copy and paste the whole thing to a word document and then reprint here. Soap Blox is just outdated.
nobody else needs it, really. just me. and maybe spx, but then there wouldn’t be very many comments on any post
I’d rather a “confirm suspected spam” button
Then if confirmed, a email/porn/bomb gets generated to the poster
Soapblox would support publishing from Word like I can do to typepad. And that would then give all the requests here for additional formatting, linking, etc a very easy solution.
If they do it, it would probably be diaries only, not comments. So.
Request #2 is a rich text editor for all editing.
that I could edit in typepad and then C&P into CoPols.com ?
Or are you jsut saying you can do that back and forth to/from W?
I have nothing as comprehensive as the lists here, but always thought a ‘back to the top’ link at the bottom of a diary/thread would be nice.
That way my lazy scrolling finger doesn’t need to twirl the little dial in the middle of my mouse so often when finished reading a long thread.
Or we could use the bar to the right. That’s still more effort than I’m comfortable making. 😉
a numerical reference on the main page after (your comments) so I know if anyone has commented on my comments since I was there last.
IDK how to fix this one-
I linkt to “your comments” and sort by recent replies. I see a recent reply in a much longer and larger thread and list. I hit my comment and to see the reply- and now all the other comments on that page are no longer “new” for me
“right click ”
(for me it’s two fingers on the pad and click or ctrl click- and the choice is “open in a new window”
for embedded YouTube- just start it and when it’s started click on it, it will open in YouTube and pause in here
Thank you, MADCO.
