In a move that senior leadership aides say has left them stunned, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) has told Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) that he will filibuster a tentative public option compromise unless it’s stripped of its key component: a measure that would allow people aged 55-64 to buy insurance through Medicare.

Senior Leadership is “stunned”, really? I’m not sure why. Sure, no one could have predicted this betrayal a year ago.

Joe Lieberman has been quite useless as a legislator for some time, but now he’s just throwing a wrench into health reform because he’s a vengeful prick. His reasons for opposing health care form change by the week proving that the only principal the man has left is to remind those that opposed his 2004 Presidential campaign and 2006 Senate campaign, how important Joe Lieberman is. A year ago the Liberals in the party were told to swallow hard and let Lieberman keep his key chairmanships and that we had to forgo petty revenge. Worked out great didn’t it?
There are a number of Democrats in the House and the Senate who may lose their seats next year. I won’t miss many of them. Opposing Lieberman was never about revenge. It was about standing up for Democrats and defining what they stand for. They have less than a year to figure that out, if they can’t do it, they deserve to lose.

Isn’t Insurance the biggest industry in Connecticut ?
So isn’t he just standing up for his constituents ?
.
Like the fact that a public option is supported by a majority of voters in Connecticut, 65% in fact.
Or the fact that Lieberman supported Medicare Buy in, which is now threatning to fillibuster, as recently as three months ago.
especially the “vengeful prick” part. I fucking hate Lieberman’s sorry ass.
me too.
The Republican Party.
This guy is a self absorbed narcissist who thinks the earth revolves around him. I fucking hate him too. He should not only lose his chair, they should kick his ass out of the Senate.
I know that won’t happen, but at Christmas I always give myself one wish (like world peace or something), but this year its kicking Lieberman out of the Senate.
Wat to go, Joe.
If I carry one for my health insurer buddies I’ve got reelection money in the bag. What a douche Joe is.
I think about what happened with Joe Leiberman and laugh.
Although consistency would be nice. Lieberman favored a Medicare buy in a few months ago, then he found out Liberals liked the idea, so he changed his mind. This is about Lieberman’s wittle feelings being hurt.
wasn’t why he was booted out of the party was it? As I remember it he was rather viciously attacked by the extreme left elements of the Democratic Party which couldn’t stand having a “Defense Hawk” in the party. If the Dems want loyalty from Lieberman, maybe they should have shown some.
There are a lot of defense hawks in the Democratic party. There are a lot of them who supported the Iraq War. That’s not why the voters of Ct kicked Lieberman out.
(at least the sane ones) didn’t kick Lieberman out of anything. It was the wacko far left that forced him out of the Democrat party and he still kicked Lamont’s ass.
I join my liberal brothers and sisters: KILL THE BILL! KILL THE BILL!
