Lieberman trying to derail health care.

  •
  • by: Karinthy

In a move that senior leadership aides say has left them stunned, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) has told Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) that he will filibuster a tentative public option compromise unless it’s stripped of its key component: a measure that would allow people aged 55-64 to buy insurance through Medicare.

Senior Leadership is “stunned”, really?  I’m not sure why. Sure, no one could have predicted this betrayal a year ago.

Joe Lieberman has been quite useless as a legislator for some time, but now he’s just throwing a wrench into health reform because he’s a vengeful prick.  His reasons for opposing health care form change by the week proving that the only principal the man has left is to remind those that opposed his 2004 Presidential campaign and 2006 Senate campaign, how important Joe Lieberman is. A year ago the Liberals in the party were told to swallow hard and let Lieberman keep his key chairmanships and that we had to forgo petty revenge. Worked out great didn’t it?

There are a number of Democrats in the House and the Senate who may lose their seats next year. I won’t miss many of them. Opposing Lieberman was never about revenge. It was about standing up for Democrats and defining what they stand for. They have less than a year to figure that out, if they can’t do it, they deserve to lose.

If Lieberman stands in the way of Health Care reform, should he lose his chairmanship?
