My 2010 Rumor Page is now posted

As many of you know I maintain a page on my website (www.dan-willis.com – then click on the donkey) where I keep track of who is rumored to be running for what.

I am doing the same thing this year, but since I have chosen to greatly dimish my role in the Democratic Party, I am not in a position to overhear nearly the scuttlebutt that I used to.

So this time, it is mostly a list of who has filed to run, or who have publicly said they are running, thinking of running etc.

I do this mostly for myself because I have the memory of a gnat, and this gives me a place to keep track of all of these names so I know what people are talking about. But you are all welcome to use it as you wish.

The comments are only my opinions. It’s my website, so I can.

    1. SD5-The Teabag wing of the GOP hate Wayne Wolf in addition to his demonstrably poor campaign skills…there is the local version of WND called the West Slope Watchdog, which isn’t online, but has regular articles calling Wolf a RINO, socialist and worse…presumably because he supported land use planning as Delta County commish.

SD 6-Ellen Roberts is quite moderate, already won a heavily Dem district and could be a real contender.

HD 59-ODonnell will be a very strong candidate in this district and an adept campaigner, coming from years of community organizing and conservation work, with support from the hunting/angling and environmental communities

          1. One of the reasons I mentioned my site on here was so other’s can look at it and send me additiosns & corrections as they come up.

I thought Wiens was out of it already, but went ahead and added him with a questioning comment.

            1. He had an exploratory committee until a couple weeks ago and now he’s in with both feet.

Thanks for putting that together, Dan, it’s a great resource.

    1. You have to go through each person’s campaign finance records on the SoS’s swebsite. They are not easily sumarized at this level like they are for the federal condidates at the FEC.

  1. You have incumbent Christine Scanalan (D) listed as “expected to run for SD16”

She has said no to the press on this. I know that sometimes people change their minds, but I think it warrants her being in bold blue on the House page.

I’ve worked hard to be responsive and accountable to everyone in Lake, Eagle and Summit counties, regardless of their party affiliation.  I am dedicated to House District 56 and will not seek the Senate seat in 2010.  We have important work to do this year, from cutting the budget to fixing 1-70 congestion to battling the bark beetle, and I want 100 percent of my focus to be here in the House, working on the issues people care about.

  2. When Josh Penry was still running for Gov. Rep. Steve King started a campaign to run for Penry’s senate seat. This, in turn, prompted some folks to look at running for King’s seat.

Now that Penry is out of the Gov’s race, is he going to run for his senate seat again? Is King going to remain in that race or go back to his House seat? If he does go back, will any of the HD candidates stay in and challenge King?

Anyone from the GJ area have the scoop on this tangled mess?

      1. I actually don’t think that is legal. I could be wrong because I have not followed recent changes to chmpaign finance laws. But it was illegal to give back donations a few years ago (unless they were from an illegal source such as corporations or were more than the individual limits allowed).

It used to be (is it still?) that he would have to either (1) use the money for his state senate campaign, if he does that; (2) give it to his party; (3) give it to another campaign committee or candidate, with some restictions applying; or (4) give it to charity.

A lot of candidates who have money left over use it for volunteer-appreciation parties and the such.
