Best political gag of the year - RUINED!

  • by: DavidThi808

I’m scheduled to interview Josh Penry in 2 weeks. Most of you remember the news story from 6 months ago when someone stole Penry’s barbeque – which had a Penry campaign sticker on it.

So I was going to bring him a present to the interview.

  1. So, David, who’s decision was it to postpone the interview? Yours or Penry’s?

Well, I can’t wait for your answer, so I’ll include my speculations below, assuming first that it was Penry’s decision. If the decision to delay was yours, well, my speculations about this are at the bottom.

    On Nov 2 you wrote:

I’m interviewing Senator Penry this Thursday

    (Thursday being Nov 5.)

Sometime later, but no later than Nov 4, you notified us

Update: put off till November 18 at 9:30am

    Hmmmm.

It’s not until Nov 9 that all the world breathlessly learns that Penry has withdrawn.

    Double Hmmmm.

Had Penry made the decision to withdraw BEFORE the election results were in and BEFORE he talked with McInnis? Would this explain his desire to delay this interview?

    .

Or, David, did you know at this time that Penry was going to be forced to withdraw, and concerned that your interview with a “former candidate for governor” would go stale fast, you made the journalistically savvy decision to postpone the interview? Oooooh, you’re good!

    Triple Hmmmm!

Did you leak all this to the WaPost?

(Wow, that was fun. I think I can understand why some people do this political speculation stuff full time!)

    1. he cancelled campaign events last Thursday and Friday to return to Grand Junction to consult with his family about future plans, so I’m guessing Penry rescheduled the interview (without explanation).

He also supposedly initiated the conversations with McInnis last Tuesday night after the CCU debate in Lakewood, so the seed was already planted by then.

    2. He postponed and said he had a scheduling conflict – no details. I figured no big deal and work is very busy so I just said ok.

But they did schedule the new time right away. Make of that what you will. I’m still waiting to hear if it is still on – I think an interview right now would be very interesting.
