Ritter in denial on hiring freeze

  • by: Libertad

“Though he did need to fill some positions, hiring thousands during a bad economy and calling it a “freeze” is misleading.”

http://www.denverpost.com/opin… —> young guns rush to the street to buy your copy of today’s Denver Post

The Denver Post’s clear and crisp editorial hammers home a handful of issues that should concern Democrats – sustainable flailing.  Its so bad that members of the State Legislature have now called for an audit.

Ritter’s Republican critics, led by gubernatorial challenger Sen. Josh Penry, quickly issued a call Tuesday for an audit of all new hires made since the governor took office.

Moderate State Senator and Penry for Governor backer Al White has repeatedly called for accountability.

It’s too bad that the Democrats have turned their attack dogs on two of Colorado’s leading State Senators.

Its clear for the Denver Post’s perspective that there need to be changes.

Gov. Bill Ritter’s insistence that state government exercised a “hiring freeze” to help cut spending during the past fiscal year strains credibility.

This past fiscal year, the executive branch hired 2,300 workers, costing the state tens of millions of dollars at a time when government was looking to slash hundreds of millions from the budget, according to a report by Call7 investigators at 7News.

But with the budget still in freefall, Ritter’s administration needs to look even more closely at the central issue of essential state services, as too many questions have been raised about too many hires.
