  1. I would really like to see the ilk of Sluttner put his name on the ballot then get bombarded with the same crap he pulls!

But he won’t because he is a gutless parasite that hides behind direct mailers and robocalls.  He won’t because his only principle is making a buck off the electoral process and that is IT!!!

He will tell you he is only playing the game as the rules stand.  You know- “don’t hate the player, hate the game.”  That is CRAP!  His profession is the ONLY profession on earth that makes being an elected official look good!

So Sluttner, what office are you going to run for so I can give money to your opposition- no matter their party affiliation?

Oh that’s right- you WON’T run because you are a chickenshit coward!

      1. I just know too many coward “political consultants” who have no problem mucking up the electoral process with their vile half-truth crap but would NEVER dream of putting their name on the ballot and having to take PUBLIC responsibility for THEIR views!

Political consultants are a HUGE part of the problem with our electoral process!  They are a big reason why campaigns cost so much!  Sluttner gets a cut of the TV action so of course he is going to tell his candidates to go raise tons of money to go up on TV.

The whole political consultant business is crap and WE, the ELECTORATE, lose out big time!!!  Consultants specialize in making sure the playing field isn’t level, the information is “technically” accurate, but never gives the voter the information they need to make decisions, etc.

        Again, WE lose!

So yea, I get angry and spit and drool when I see posts about Sluttner et al, like was on Colorado Pols yesterday!

        1. that refuse to disclose who is behind them and the like, but Huttner puts his name out there and stands by what he writes.  You might not like it, but he’s not hiding.

          1. Unfortunately I’ve seen Sluttner do the dirty, behind the scenes stuff too.  NO, his name DOES NOT go on everything he does.

I’m so worried about the power of these consultants.  My basic point: They ain’t part of the solution!

So do we act like it is just something we deal with and accept?  Do we call out the candidates?  Do we call out the consultants?

If you will notice one thing about my posts, I’m consistent in the fact that I want power in the hands of the ELECTORATE as much as possible!  Right now, at every political level, that is not the case.

            I want it back!

              1. Would you put your name on a ballot KNOWING that your children would see seemingly ugly things about you coming through the mail or on TV?  They may or may not be real, but they are coming and all designed to make YOU look like the devil!

I assume you are not the devil, but I would never know that from the drive by attacks concocted by campaign consultants.

I know many men and women who are the best and the brightest NOT run for office for this single reason.

So when our second or third level candidates win seats THEN the problem of lobbyists comes into play.

I agree with you in general.  They sort of rank 1 and 1A in my book.  Both are responsible for weakening the candidate pool.  Both are responsible for making elected officials raise money at night instead of reading legislation.

Consultants muddy the waters first, just by virtue of the fact they have first contact with a potential candidate…

                1. that no one, politician or otherwise, is forced to hire consultants.

Thus, in the case of political consultants, a politician has made the decision to hire this person. If the consultant is a nasty sluttish festering and gangrenous sort of a person, this says something about the person hiring them.

In other words, consultants are a symptom.

I’m sure there was a time in the past when the electorate thoughtfully evaluated the needs of themselves and their neighbors and carefully weighed which of the candidates would best ensure these community needs were met. I’m equally sure that unicorns prance on rainbow colored cotton candy.

    1. this could be Rosen, Caplis, Boyles and any of dozens of others; hundreds of others if we count nationally (Limbaugh, Beck, Luntz, etc)

Not Al Franken – when challenged to put up or shut up, he put up.

But I think the real power of the consultants and spinmasters is only achievable if we give it to them.  Sure I can turn the radio ot tv to a different channel. (No way I’m gonna turn it off- Homer SImpson got that one right).

But if I hate candidates and campaigns that are full o’spin and hyped or overhyped opposition slamming – finding another candidate/campaign is not always realistic.

Is it safe to assume you feel the same way about the slam-masters on the right? Os it just Huttner?

      1. I don’t like all political consultants.  I’ve never found one I would trust with my money or my watch.

Not just Huttner.  That said, Huttner IS a public figure that can moralize his actions with the best of them!

        1. That’s why you go on a rant about other political consultants all the time, right? Oh wait, you just go “Sluttner!” (so clever btw!) and then rant and rave about political consulting being horrible, constantly referring back to Michael Huttner.

          1. You are correct.  I personally don’t like Sluttner, Welchert, Britz or any of the likewise ilk on the GOP side.

Nor do I like them professionally, ethically, morally or any other “lly.”

And I ain’t the first with the “Sluttner” line.  I got that from one of the candidates who turned him and his services down (and won without him!)

  2. Highway 141 closed, vehicle leaking chemicals

A vehicle, possibly a semi-trailer, has rolled on Colorado Highway 141 near Gateway, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The highway is closed to all traffic at Colorado Highway 50 in Whitewater, troopers said.

Chemicals leaking from the vehicle, possibly gilsonite, were on fire, according to dispatched reports.

As of 11:25 a.m. troopers were not on scene. The Gateway Fire Department is responding and has requested mutual aid from the Lands End Fire Protection District.

The State Patrol was notified at 11:08 of the accident.

This unique mineral [gilsonite] is used in more than 160 products, primarily in dark-colored printing inks and paints, oil well drilling muds and cements, asphalt modifiers, foundry sand additives, and a wide variety of chemical products. The trademark, registered in 1921, belongs to the American Gilsonite Company.

  3. Has the UFCW Office in Washington OK’d a strike?

Have the current and incoming UFCW leadership thought of forming a coalition government to manage the union?

Any word on when the Duran’s challenge to the landslide election loss their members gave them will be heard? Has anyone seen a copy of the challenge? Is there anyway to see a copy of the challenge?

  4. What time are you folks coming over?

Cooking a nice garlic-laden red sauce with plenty of red wine, going sledding with the little girls later!

Hope everyone had as fun of a snow day as I did.

  5. http://birmingham.bizjournals….

A jury Wednesday found Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford guilty of all 60 counts of bribery in a pay-for-play case.

…Langford is the fifth former Jefferson County Commissioner to face charges on corruption, most related to the county’s sewer debt debacle.

Jeff Germany served 32 months at the Federal Prison Camp in Montgomery in August on four counts of misapplying county funds and one count of conspiracy.

Chris McNair was sentenced to 60 months for taking bribes in 2007 but has not yet been sent to prison.

Mary Buckelew pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice for lying to a grand jury about receiving bribes from a Montgomery investment banker to discuss bond transactions. Her sentencing has been delayed until after Langford’s trial.

And Gary White was convicted on nine counts of conspiracy and bribery, but won a retrial in January 2008 and awaits a new trial.

And why are corrupt politicians so cheap?

    http://www.google.com/hostedne

He was convicted Wednesday of all the counts he faced for accepting cash and luxury items worth about $236,000 while serving as president of the Jefferson County Commission. In exchange, he funneled $7.1 million in bond business to a prominent investment banker.

Those are some serious returns on the investment.
