Where's the Press?

  • by: Ellie

For several months the press and blogs have had their say about the importance of McInnis and Penry sharing a forum, having a debate on the issues.  Yesterday the CFRW (Colorado Federation of Republican Women)held a debate.  There were opening statements then q & a – much like a Presidential debate.  Reports from two of my friends that were there said McInnis won hands down.  A supporter of McInnis sent out an e-mail that said it was a grand slam for McInnis.

Where was the press?  I have searched the majors in Denver, C-Springs and Pueblo.

  1. Oh, nevermind.  You answered that question.

We’re all shocked that your “friends” thought McInnis won the day.

You should have your bosses (Hesse and Duffy) watch the new HBO documentary OUTrage.  I half expected to see them show up for interviews…

    1. I wish I were a staffer.  It would be damn interesting. Fortunately I have a job so my interest is in electing a solid leader like McInnis who doesn’t resort to attacking fellow Republicans to make a name for himself.

    2. This was sent to my email early this morning from a Penry supporter.

      Dear Mr. Britt

We are disappointed in the outcome of this event today. Based on your email below, we had looked forward to seeing Mr. Penry in person and being able to judge him in comparison to the other leading candidate. Unfortunately, your campaign apparently did not recognize that this was a closed event for Republican Women and this resulted in numbers of people showing up to a meeting to which they were not to be invited.  When the Republican Women acquiesced to letting the “interlopers” watch the proceedings, they did so in a decidedly exclusionary manner, telling these folks that there would be no seats for them and they were to be silent and not ask questions.

This lack of awareness, organization and coordination by your campaign is reminiscent of the sadly disorganized campaign efforts that the Republican Party in El Paso ran for the ill-fated candidacy of John McCain last year.  We participated in that campaign effort and believe it contributed to his loss in this state.

That is not acceptable for the coming gubernatorial campaign. Given such disorganization at this early stage of the campaign when there is little pressure, we see the Penry candidacy as having little chance of success in the election, and further as damaging Republican efforts to mount a successful campaign to reclaim the Statehouse. We are  therefore not inclined to either work for Mr. Penry or support him with contributions and recommend you consider withdrawing so that the Republican Party can avoid a costly and divisive primary and instead concentrate on the campaign against the incumbent Governor.

      1. Dear Friends,

This weekend is your next chance to see Sen. Penry in one of the 10 forums and debates he has agreed to participate in as he lays out his vision for turning around the economy and getting our state back on track.

This Saturday, October 24 at 1:30 p.m. Sen. Penry will participate in the Colorado Federation of Republican Women Candidate Forum.  The event will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 2886 South Circle Drive, in Colorado Springs.

The candidate who will beat Bill Ritter next November is the candidate who can convey the most compelling vision of where to take this state in the future.  Josh is eager for the opportunity to explain his vision for a New Day for Colorado.

Some candidates prefer to spend all their time touting polls and fundraising totals, but polls only get us so far.  We need a candidate with real ideas about how to win over the minds of voters and govern this state. It’s time to debate and discuss the issues that are important to Colorado families.

The forum is already gaining press coverage. Click HERE to read an article in the Colorado Springs Gazette about the forum. We hope you can join us tomorrow at the Crowne Plaza to hear about Josh’s ideas for how to get our state back on track and get moms and dads working again.

        Best,

        Mike Britt

        Campaign Manager
