Today's Bennet v. Romanoff Polemic Thread Going Strong

  • by: Colorado Pols

Here, actually–a diary posted this morning. It seems to be the place to be today so this is how we note it without, you know, subsidizing it. The pitches! The catches! The heart-shaking shock of it all! Don’t miss this.

As you were.

        1. I was never in the balloon.

I was in the box. Sleeping. I heard you calling me, but I didn’t answer because you said we were doing it for a show.

If I was in the balloon- I would have peed, burped, farted and cut taxes. I’d have been a manly boy.

  1. here’s a post I made to to the Compas for Benent Group (people in favor of immigration reform)”One thing that I would suggest on face book to avoid problems (which I’ve already experienced) is to try and discuss why we like Sen.Bennet and not be critical of the Speaker. It’s just a suggestion.

I had a very bad encounter with people who were criticizing me for organizing, and I asked the Speaker personally to try and keep things civil. We will win this primary and general election, but we’ll need the Speaker’s supporters after we win the primary. I believe that county level support generally is the best place to get active with canvassing. I can get county info from the campaign. Certainly separate events anyone in the group wants to run under this group banner are encouraged.”

    1. I have only voted Republican once or twice in my life and that was for Olympia Snow.  I remember voting in MA and there were no Republicans on the ballot.

Why do I bore you with this? Because I will not vote for Bennet; he’s a closet Republican and a clone of Bill Ritter and Ken Salazar. It doesn’t matter how much you sweet talk Bennet you will not get my vote.

          1. You two need to ask nice or I’m not answering any of your requests for links.

What’s the matter did I hit a raw nerve? The truth hurts doesn’t it?

Bennet is not qualified and has a boat load of money from special interests. I could stop there but he also voted no on the cram-down something he will never live down and he has yet to take a stand on the EFCA. He also demonstrated weak support for the public option up until the time AR got into the race.

Get over it; AR is in the race for the long haul. If you can’t take it get the hell out of the Democratic Party because trying to intimidate Bennet’s opponent out of running is getting old and is un-Democratic.

            1. If you really care that much about EFCA with no card check, and cramdown, that’s understandable, and those are certainly legitimate gripes about Bennet.

However, you calling Michael Bennet a closet Republican would be like if I called George W. Bush a closet Democrat. I mean, he went to Yale didn’t he? He expanded Medicare DIDN’T HE?!?!

In reality, Michael Bennet votes with his party and the President 91% of the time. I’d gladly take a Republican who voted that way.

As for Sen. Bennet on the public option, here’s your false, false logic disputed. All of those statements in the video in that diary were made before Romanoff entered the race. Bennet may have been slow to support a public option, but it was through constituent pressure–not Romanoff’s mere presence in the race–that changed Bennet’s mind.

              1. We’re a nation of debtors and slaves and Ritter and Salazar are partly responsible for pushing the middleclass into poverty.  I put out facts and you name call. Is that all you have? Why can’t you address what Bennet’s reasoning was for voting against the cram-down? Was it because he is in the pockets of special interests? It certainly wasn’t because he had the economy or the wellbeing of the middleclass in mind.

You all come on here and bitch about Bill Ritter and yet you don’t see the same type of behavior in Bennet? What’s up with that?

                1. 1) “he’s not qualified and has lotsa money from special interests”

                  – define “qualified”

                  – it’s the US Senate, except for the late Senator Wellstone (RIP) that’s how it works

                  2) cram down- he gave his reasons at the time. I didn’t/don’t agree but it’s not clear to me that AR would have voted differently

                  3) EFCA – give him the final language of the bill, and he’ll give you a position. A position I’d bet would be very similar to AR”s.

                  4) Public option – your facts are wrong.

                  1. How has putting all the eggs in the banks’ basket helped this country? By not giving bankruptcy judges a stick to force banks to do what is right has resulted in more foreclosures. And it has caused more homeowners who are not in default harm.  Bennet was only concerned with his paymasters not what was actually good for the economy.  When this happened right before the Great Depression the courts decided that the banks were responsible for giving out risky loans and wouldn’t protect them.  They should have known better, the courts said.

Now we’re in for millions more foreclosures but these will be different.  They are being called strategic foreclosures in that these are people who have income streams but are upside down on their mortgages.  They are strategically deciding to walk away from their homes.  What are banks going to do when millions of homeowners are saying we don’t care take our house.  The banks were blindsided by their greed and Bennet enabled them by voting no on the cram-down legislation.  He was wrong.

“We had to struggle with the old enemies of peace – business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering. … Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today.  They are unanimous in their hate for me. And I welcome their hatred!”

Roosevelt – Madison Square Garden address of October 31, 1936.

              2. Bennet has been very up front about his life as bag man for Phil Anschutz while Anschutz funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars into Republan candidates and campaigns includeing Bill Owens ’98 and Amendment 2.

There is nothing “in the closet” about Bennet’s work that lead to the defeat of many Democrats in Colorado and around the country.

                1. He is upfront about his corporate ties but don’t you think he’s putting on a good show for now so he can try and succeed in securing the Democratic nomination? If that happens he’ll return to his corporatist ways.

              1. seriously, I think when you reference sh*t like this you should post video or pictures or something.

ANd would I be right in assuming that you know SH outside of here?

                1. I have no idea who SH is. She showed up as soon as Romanoff declared. I just find her repetitive talking points tiresome and can’t honestly say that I’m going to continue to sit by quietly while she spews her BS on this site.

And forgive me but I have no idea what it is you want me to link to. Please explain?

                  1. I thought SH must have crossed paths with you in the past to get blasted so. I’m not complaining or trying to shut you down- just sayin’.

As for links- I was being wry. See you said to SH go fuck yourself .  I was implying that you should provide pictures or video.  See, this being the internet, and there being all this wacky free porn and political bs flying around… ok, I acknowledge when humor must be explained, it’s not humorous.

I’ll try to be more upfront next time.

                    1. I’m so sorry. There’s nothing worse than having to explain a joke. I am so bad. Things go over my head all the time. Ask anybody. It’s not you. It’s me. 🙂

                    2. I am so sick of the “it’s not you- it’s me speech”

I ‘ve been hearing all my life. dammit

                      just kidding

      1. You do him no favors by saying you won’t vote for Bennet. I’m an enthusiastic Romanoff supporter to the extent that I gave up my beer budget to give him a donation. Even though I think Bennet not a great Senator he is good enough and far better than any of the jokers that I know of on the Republican side.

My argument is that Bennet is fine, he’s good enough, but I’m not satisfied with good enough. I want to reach for great. But if I cannot have great, if Romanoff is not as good a campaigner as I think he is, if he does not start exciting the primary voters, if I’m wrong, I’ll settle for good enough. I will vote for Bennet in the general election.

If you really support Romanoff you should not be trying to damage Bennet. You should be talking up every good quality of the former Speaker instead.

I support whoever is going to best represent the citizens of Colorado and that is Andrew Romanoff. Andrew Romanoff or you do not control my talking points only I do and I’m well researched.

Why do you go after me and not the sock puppets that are supporting Bennet? Many of them are abusive and engage in name calling.

  2. Sen. Bennet is not Republican. He’s deliberate in actually reading the langugage of a bill.

He supports a path to citizenship in immigration reform, and contrary to opposition statements, he  has championed a public option snce at least June.

    He’s Yale law graduate.

Repubicans believe in don’t tax and spend if the the last decade is any example.
