Penry Nets Impressive Q3 Total

From the Denver Post, though maybe you got the text message earlier:

GOP gubernatorial candidate Josh Penry collected more than $416,000 in his first quarter of fundraising, nearly matching the total raised in the last three months by the man he is trying to unseat, Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter.

Penry, the state Senate minority leader, received $416,059, with 92 percent of that from in-state donors, campaign manager Mike Britt said.

Penry announced his total by texting his supporters the following message: “Gov. Ritter has Pres. Obamas fundraising list, but weve got you.We raised $416K from 1500 donors, 300% more than Gov. Ritters 1st qrtr thanks to you! -Josh”

An excellent total for this race by any measure. Penry’s triumphant spin is clearly directed at Bill Ritter (ridiculous as the 300% comparison may be, since Ritter’s first quarter was much earlier in the cycle in 2006 and at a time when many other Democrats were still considering running), but Ritter’s not the one who should be sweating these numbers. Primary opponent Scott McInnis needs to take ownership of this race by owning Penry on fundraising, this quarter perhaps most critically to stop Penry’s building momentum–and the bar just got set awfully high.

              1. I gotta run to LA for a film meeting on the 19th — should be back by Oct 23

if you can do it, we’ll get RSB and others to join – let me know – or we can aim for another date?

Otherwise, we’ll have to do Moulin Rouge in Grand Junction

And yes – EXTRA CRISPY, no doubt! If Mamma’s served waffles on top of the chicken, then I’d be in Heaven! I’m definitely swinging by Roscoe’s while I’m in LA…..

                You’re a good sport, CT!

                1. I am not sure of what date I will be in Denver, just sometime that week.  Might be the 23rd, might be earlier.  I am over there at least once a month.  I may be a crazy lib, but I pay my debts.  You’ll get your bucket…

I’ve always thought we should do a midway meet up, like Eagle or Summit counties….but that’s just me trying get Polsters to drive west once in a while.

                    1. Dude – I’m a Muslim and brown-skinned!

You want me to dine publicly with a guy in a ski-mask? Might as well throw a Quran on the table too, dude… the FBI will love it….

    1. And no, I’m not buying you a bucket of chicken but…if you are ever in Estes Park, the first round of something alcoholic and strong is on me.

And why am I buying you drinks? It pains me to now say this but I’m buying because you were right. Oh God. That hurt.

      🙂

        1. I’ll email you shortly.

Oh, and I’m a sister, by the way. 🙂 Just so I don’t shock you when I meet you–thought you ought to know.

  1. When do we get to see his numbers?  Or, perhaps he will launch his campaign in early 2010?  Maybe with an ‘It’s about Calgary Colorado Redux’ hot-air balloon ride around the state?

    1. Didn’t anybody proofread this text message beforehand (we’re assuming there was a discussion about what the message would say), or did he just punch it out at the last minute and hit ‘send’?

      1. should be very afraid if Josh becomes governor. He might push a bill to eliminate English and grammar instruction in favor of teaching creationism.

    1. under the open thread…not that I am COPols, but just noting that I beat you to the punch.

Can’t wait to see some of the breakdowns:

Who got the O&G money, or did it split (and if so, who got the CO O&G money and who got big multi-nationals, such as Scooter’s client?)

In state v. out-of-state: most of Penry’s came for CO–will the same be true of Scooter?

How many donors and average contributions?

    2. about Scott’s take and such and I will promote it…fair is fair, the other one’s are front paged and I’m happy to get a diary on McInnis’ totals too.

  2. Truly impressive numbers for the Scooter.

A bloody primary may save Ritter. It is telling that the two GOP candidates raised double what an incumbent Governor raised.
