I know most people on this web site hate him, but Ken Gordon is still the former Senate majority leader, a widely recognized name in the Democratic party, and someone who’s accomplished a lot of things. His endorsement is certainly meaningful.
Gordon sent out an email today in support of Romanoff. Below the fold…
From the Desk of:
Ken GordonDear Friends and Neighbors:
I’m writing to ask you to contribute to Andrew Romanoff’s campaign for the U.S. Senate. Wednesday, September 30th is the finance reporting deadline for this quarter; your donation of $25, $50, $100 or more will help a great deal.
I’ve known Andrew for more than 15 years, and so I have a lot of information on which to base this recommendation. The year I got elected to the Senate, Andrew took my seat in the House. His colleagues elected him as the Democratic leader in just his second term.
In 2004, Andrew led the effort to elect a Democratic majority in the House for the first time since Watergate. As Speaker of the House, he helped negotiate and pass Referendum C; without his leadership, we would have defunded higher education by now.
Please show your support by contributing today.
Here are three reasons to elect Andrew: first, his ties to the community; second, his record of effectiveness; and third, his independence from special interests. I will briefly address each in turn.
Andrew has been in constant contact with the people of Colorado for more than a decade. He has met with Coloradans in every county in the state. He has developed a feel for the texture and fabric of Colorado that cannot come automatically and overnight. As a legislator he always heard both sides and worked for mutually beneficial outcomes.
Andrew is the best legislative leader I’ve ever worked with. We need his experience and skill in Washington.
Even in the minority, Andrew was remarkably effective at getting legislation passed. This skill of working with the other side is rare in politics. Most candidates become good at preaching to the choir, but the ability to work with people across the political spectrum is what we need to create lasting change. Although I hope that Andrew doesn’t have to serve in the minority in the Senate, the experience of having worked in the minority is invaluable in learning to pass legislation against long odds.
Andrew is not beholden to interest groups. Too often in Washington legislators are afraid to stand up to groups that have supported their party. This lack of courage helps increase the centrifugal force that leads to partisanship and gridlock. I’ve seen Andrew demonstrate political courage — and I know he’ll bring that courage to the Senate.
Finally, let me add that Andrew is wicked smart and he works tremendously hard.
Please send Andrew a contribution today. Even small contributions help a great deal. This is going to be a grassroots campaign — the kind I’ve always thought is the most rewarding (and fun).
Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Sen. Ken Gordon
Former Majority Leader, Colorado State SenatePS: Don’t forget that the reporting period for contributions ends Wednesday at midnight. Show your support by contributing to Andrew’s campaign today.
Paid for by Romanoff for Colorado,

such a bad rap. And he worked his ass off, literally, for Ref. C. Walked the entire state, if I recall correctly. Good guy. And he writes the absolute best emails of anyone in office I’ve ever read.
some shenanigans over that election day waiting lines in Denver which most likely depressed voter turnout for Gordon.
very close loss – I wonder if Gordon will run for anything else?
I thought he did a marvelous job in the Senate and I, for one, will never forget how hard he worked for Ref. C & D. I think he is a witty, intelligent, insightful man and his style and leadership is sorely missed down in Denver.
I received e-mail a few days ago that Rep. Andy Kerr also endorsed Romanoff.
