Pols Poll: Secretary of State

  • by: Colorado Pols

As we’ve done in other election years, we regularly poll our readers on various races to gauge changing perceptions. These obviously aren’t scientific polls, but they do help to show how the perception of various candidates are changing. We’ll conduct these polls each month and then show the results to see how the winds are shifting.

As always, please vote based on what you think will happen, not on who you would vote for or which candidate you support personally. Think of it this way: If you had to bet the deed to your house, who would you pick?

Who Will Be Elected Secretary of State in 2010?

  1. the incumbent SoS has done during the last six months?

Exactly. The fact that we have heard almost nothing about the goings on in the Office of the SoS recently means Buescher is competently doing his job and is not engaging in any shenanigans. (Unlike the previous two holders of this office.)

    Buescher wins this going away.

  2. In the General or a primary?  Thought it was weird Bernie endorsed Bennet using his Sect of State title.

I think they should stay out of all endorsements.

    1. from Mike Coffman’s rampant ultra-partisanship in that office.

I’ll take the SoS endorsing a candidate in their party’s primary race over what seemed like monthly allegations of misconduct.

      1. that Coffman endorsed any candidates in that race? Huh?  Huh?

Just because he ran doesn’t mean he took a position on who he wanted to win. Well, does it? Huh?

Oh, just because he … uh … he really did that? Oh … umm … never mind.

        😉

  3. Having watched Bernie Buescher in the House I’m not surprised he has done a remarkable job putting SOS back on the right track. Hopefully the right wing will be too busy sniping at moderate R’s and D candidates to notice this one (I won’t bet the farm).

  4. 1. He couldn’t get elected to the Boulder city council when there were 5 or 6 openings (all seats are at-large). He had yard signs out everywhere. Ran a partisan campaign when partisan campaigns are illegal. Wasn’t even the top vote-getter among the conservative candidates.

    2. Gessler spearheaded the suit before the CO supreme court defending the R’s 11th-hour re-redistricting. As I recall, he did this work pro bono. Do you want this guy running elections?

  5.    Is she definitely not going to run?  She strikes me a something of a Donetta Davidson type of Republican (i.e., a partisan but competent and knowing where the bounds of partisanship should end).

In fact, she and Donetta were “bookends” in the Arapahoe Clerk and Recorder’s Office, coming before and after the reign of Tracy Baker.

Doty strikes me as a much more serious challenger for Bernie Buescher than Gessler.

  6. So it’s only logical that Andrew Romanoff will challenge him in a primary. AR should have had the job in the first place- well him or Joan F.  Andrew is a well liked, D insider.  Andrew believes in the voters choosing.

    Ar for SOS!

    1. If we don’t have a primary than President Emmanuel wins.

Can we simply clone him, and then have the clone run a primary against Buescher? Does Romanoff have a long lost twin brother nobody knows about, or, barring that, a guy who looks a lot like him?

      1. I think a similar name would be enough.

Roman Andrewnoff  would be funnier… but

        Andru Rominoff,  Democrat from Denver.

Born at Denver General, graduated from DPS and Metro.

        Long active in Denver politics.

Any gender, any ethnicity, almost any age- and the real arguments for AR4Senate so far would still work- name recognition where perception is reality, insider status, the right partisan affiliation, All he/she would need is a broad social circle of friends who can decribe the candidate as “well liked.” Throw in a few endorsments of other insiders- poof! a viable primary challenge.

No money, no platform, but it would be good for the eventual nominee.

  7. Spend 5 minutes with Bernie in person and he will have you. He is working on some great projects mainly around streamlining voter registration and ensuring that our voting systems are sound. As he well tell you his most important job is insuring our elections run smoothly (cough, cough, coffman).

    Tim Tribett

  8. I just gave a major contribution to Scott Gessler and I’m very proud of that

Gessler is a terrific person, great depth of thought, and an expert on all election and corporate laws

Gessler has also been very loyal to the Republican Party, mentoring a lot of candidates, like myself, and helping us get started in our campaigns — he’s one the ‘good guys’

He is going to do a terrific job as SOS

And BTW – this is tough for me, because I LOVE that a fellow Western Sloper is sitting in a statewide position, so my deepest respect to Secretary Buescher for all of his accomplishments and the good job he has done representing us Western Slopers…

  9. let the flames begin, because…..

MIKE COFFMAN WAS A TERRIFIC SECRETARY OF STATE

And thankfully, he’s also a terrific Congressman

I wish all politicians worked as hard at building relationships with their people as Coffman does – he sets a standard when it comes to building bridges
