Ritter supports Bennet : Rendell supports Specter

Ritter just emailed everyone about his support for Michael Bennet:

Michael has only served for a short time, but he has already earned a reputation in Colorado and in Washington as a serious, thoughtful and straightforward public servant.

This is not surprising because no matter what the context — business, government, or public education — Michael has built a long record of success, of doing big things, of not shrinking from hard choices or entrenched interests. We don’t need to tell you that we need more of that in Washington.

hey team Ritter,

when your polling numbers are in the low 40’s and your disapproval rating is in the 50’s, you might think twice about giving your support to someone you want to help.

Also, I would not label yourself as ‘fighting the DC interests’ when the perception is that you are fairly new to Colorado Dems and actually from DC circles. And is the reputation that Bennet has earned a good one? If it is so good, why are fellow dems like Perlmutter and DeGette staying neutral?

Let’s face it, Ritter is in the tank polling wise, and he has been on the air with statements like this

“I could have appointed Andrew, and it would have been better for me politically to have done that because he had sort of a longer history in Colorado politics,” he said.

ya think?

If your goal is to help Bennet, you might want to rethink your strategy instead of talking about what would have been better for you politically, because this looks like it is all being about saving your political credibility, not helping Bennet’s.

FYI – PA Governor Ed Rendell supports Arlen Specter over Joe Sestak even though the tide has turned on him and Specter.

Support Romanoff here, and make your voice heard.

Who will be in the lead in democratic polling for CO Senate race?

          1. Facts actually matter here and calling someone a troll just gets you mocked, not respected.

But hey, maybe you could post this diary over there and put John Edwards name in it and see if you can get back a spot on the coveted Rec List. 🙂

      1. Ritter APPOINTED Bennet, it speaks volumes that the governor stands by his appointment, as do Udall and Buescher.

Be honest — if Ritter hadn’t sent this letter, you would have written an equally breathless post saying Ritter was distancing himself from his toxic appointment, and referenced Burris instead of Specter.

    1. Ritter, Udall, J. Salazar, Markey and Polis.

That’s 5 votes.  No matter who they are, they can each cast only one vote in the primary election.  And, primary voters are too engaged in the process to blindly vote for whomever their congressmen, etc. vote for.  Maybe if it was a general election these kinds of endorsements would be huge “gets” but not in an off year primary.

  1. What in the world does Rendell and Specter have to do with our race in Colorado, I wonder? Wade, could you please explain the apparent parallel here because I’m not seeing it.

      1. Could you please explain the relevance because other than David Sirota floating that idea, I haven’t read anyone anywhere else even try to make such a bullshit comparison.

        So, please. Enlighten us.

    1. Ritter and Rendell and both governors.  Bennet and Specter are both incumbent candidates (sort of) with primary challengers.

      It’s called a an Analogy…

  2. If you are angry with Bill Ritter for not appointing your guy, then why not go after Bill Ritter? Why should he get off so easy if primaries are the greatest thing since PB&J?

    1. Perlmutter and several other candidates would have been fine picks, the problem was that Bennet was Nobody’s guy –

      democracy calls for a primary.

amd maybe Andrew would rather be in the Senate – the same reason why he did not run in 06 for guv.

      1. Ritter has been a focal point of the anger from the activists online and on the ground. By attacking Bennet, and not Ritter, progressives are treating the symptom of the disease rather than curing it altogether.
