  1. Colorado House speaker dismisses complaint against fellow Democrat as questions linger

Colorado House Speaker Crisanta Duran has dismissed a sexual harassment complaint against a Democratic colleague with little explanation, a move that is prompting the accuser’s attorney to question whether the incident “is being swept under the rug without any accountability.”

[…] In a conference call, Duran told Cavaness [the accuser] and his attorney, Alan Kennedy-Shaffer, that she dismissed the complaint because it fell outside the scope of the policy, given that Rosenthal was not a lawmaker at the time of the incident.

She declined to explain how she came to her decision, they said, and documents from the investigation offered no further clues. But Duran made clear on the call that the termination of the investigation was not a determination about Rosenthal’s innocence or guilt, Kennedy-Shaffer said.

[,,,] Moreover, Cavaness said, he feels his complaint was treated as an isolated incident, despite an exclusive Post report about how the speaker’s office quietly handled another complaint about Rosenthal’s behavior during the 2017 legislative session.

In that situation, a former legislative policy aide alleged Rosenthal used his office to pursue a romantic relationship with her brother. Rosenthal, a teacher, allegedly told the aide that he may be able to help her brother professionally as he sought a meeting. She took her complaint to Duran’s office, but it never rose to the level of an investigation.

    Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

  2. Sessions will rescind the federal "hands off" policy on pot today.

AP NewsBreak: US to end policy that let legal pot flourish

The move by President Donald Trump’s attorney general likely will add to confusion about whether it’s OK to grow, buy or use marijuana in states where pot is legal, since long-standing federal law prohibits it. It comes days after pot shops opened in California, launching what is expected to become the world’s largest market for legal recreational marijuana and as polls show a solid majority of Americans believe the drug should be legal.

Perhaps Congress will act to..sorry, couldn't stop laughing long enough to finish the thought.

    1. And, another front in the Republican conflict (or confusion) opens up. I’m SHOCKED to discover that one-time Senator Jefferson Sessions’ promises in a pre-confirmation interview with rising Republican star Sen. Cory Gardner are not binding.

According to a Washington Post article,

Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) said on Twitter that the move “directly contradicts what Attorney General Sessions told me prior to his confirmation.”

“With no prior notice to Congress, the Justice Department has trampled on the will of the voters in CO and other states,” he wrote. “I am prepared to take all steps necessary, including holding DOJ nominees, until the Attorney General lives up to the commitment he made to me prior to his confirmation.”

        1. He's very handsome, but completely stupid, and willing to lie about anything to advance their policies, just like most Republicans in DC at this particular time.

        2. It wasn't the scorpion that got stung, unnamed. It was the fox that carried it across the river on its back. The scorpion said, "It's in my nature".

          1. I know.  But in the case of Sessions lying to Gardner, it's like a scorpion stinging another scorpion and the stung scorpion being mad about being stung.

        3. That's kinda Jennifer Rubin's point of view.

Sessions may have lied (or not been in a position to make the promise), but these lawmakers were fools to take him at his word. His hard-line approach to drugs was well-known, and the administration’s desire to court social conservatives has been obvious since the campaign.

    1. Good thing Zappatero isn't heading up any of the Dem campaign committees for the mid-terms. The Dems would lose seats instead of making gains.

  3. WOTD from Josh Marshall: "Taking Stock of Another Manic Trump Morning"

Have you ever see a coiled hose that suddenly has hugely pressurized water run through it? We all have. It swings and jerks violently this way and that. It gets everyone wet. There’s violence and chaos but no real plan. It’s reflex. That’s our President. But it’s not water, it’s fire. This instinctive, peristaltic kind of chaotic action is the way to understand him. Not any theory. That’s what’s happening today and will continue for every day of his Presidency, albeit with lulls of lethargy and torpor here and there.

He is likely the most reviled and mocked man in the entire world today. He is also the most powerful, because of the unique attributes and powers of the American presidency. He’s tossing around nuclear threats with another man on the other side of the globe who has power similarly because he was born into it. Another legacy kid with nuclear weapons. The whole situation is comical, mind-boggling and deeply dangerous.

    And for Extra Credit…

Michael Wolff: "My Insane Year inside Trump's White House"

Wolff has got all the money quotes on tape.

If you have ever been around someone with Alzheimers, it is obvious that Trump is suffering from dementia.

    1. Regarding Wolff and all his quotes from Bannon:  pretty hilarious that the White House lawyers have sent Bannon a cease-and-desist letter for things he's ALREADY said publicly.  What's he supposed to do, borrow Obama's time machine and erase his previous statements?
