  1. Another woman says Franken tried to forcibly kiss her

A former Democratic congressional aide said Al Franken tried to forcibly kiss her after a taping of his radio show in 2006, three years before he became a U.S. senator.

The aide, whose name POLITICO is withholding to protect her identity, said Franken (D-Minn.) pursued her after her boss had left the studio. She said she was gathering her belongings to follow her boss out of the room. When she turned around, Franken was in her face.

    1. Dems have to take the high road on this……..maybe voters will actually notice at some point if they do.

"Both sides do it" is not acceptable wrt this issue.

  2. Cookie, with a little help from the supreme court, we can have a bright future smuggling wedding cakes to gay nuptials.  A bit of rainbow food coloring, a dollop of respect and these folks will be customers for life!

    1. Smuggling? We had ours done by an old friend (he's gone now) at the grocery store bakery. He did a gorgeous job and we still have the pocelain teddy bear brides that were on it.

  3. SCOTUS held oral argument yesterday in the Masterpiece Cakeshop case. Predicting the outcome of an appeal based on orals is something of a fool's errand, but hey, I've got no viable claim of being anything other than a fool, so: looks like we'll get a 5-4 decision favoring the forces of religious bigotry.

    1. I still haven't finished reading all of the coverage of the arguments, but I’m actually hoping for a 5-4 the other direction. The specific case was about plaintiffs who live in an urban area and could have gone elsewhere, but what about people who live in small towns where there is only one bakery? That needs to be one of the factors considered.

      1. If you're interested in reading the actual transcript, it's available here. As is so often the case in circumstances like this, Justice Kennedy's vote appears to be the key. The potential good news on that front is that Kennedy is the best friend gay people have ever had in the federal judiciary.

  4. "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice"

Australia became the latest country to implement marriage equality. If you are keeping score, among the holdouts are  Putin's Russia, Boko Haram's Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, a handful of counties in Kim Davis' Kentucky and Roy Moore's Alabama, and a certain bakery in Lakewood.
