What you can do to fight back this week (November 6)

  • by: ProgressNow Colorado

This time, the cancellations are real.

Back in 2014, Sen. Cory Gardner filmed a campaign ad holding a letter he claimed was a “cancellation” of his family’s health coverage. It wasn’t true: Gardner never lost coverage, and the letter he was holding was a renewal notice.

In October of this year, the Republican-controlled Congress failed to reauthorize funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which covers more than 90,000 kids in Colorado and maternity care for hundreds of pregnant women. Unlike Gardner’s “cancellation notice” that really wasn’t, today thousands of Colorado families are waiting for their own letter in the mail—notifying them of cancelled coverage they won’t get back.

Gardner claims to support funding for the CHIP program, but the U.S. Senate has not moved to address the issue. Meanwhile, the House wants to hold health coverage for kids and expecting moms hostage to make more cuts to the Affordable Care Act. Colorado’s kids need leadership, not rhetoric and blame-shifting.

Click here to watch one of Colorado’s kids tell Cory Gardner that tens of thousands of fellow Coloradans are counting on him to do the right thing. Share this video with your friends, and tell them to contact Sen. Gardner—to urge reauthorization of the CHIP program before it’s too late.

Thanks for taking action to protect Colorado kids. Once that’s done, here are more ways to take action for the week of November 6th:
