Mike Coffman's Position on Heathcare Reform

  •
  • by: PolitianWatch

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

A constituant recently wrote to Mike Coffman asking him where he stood on healthcare reform and received this response. By the way healthcare wasn’t even a choice on his drop down menu.

Dear Name Redacted:

Thank you very much for contacting my office regarding healthcare.  It was a pleasure hearing from you.

The best way to provide health care coverage for Americans is a question that has long occupied the thoughts of the Congress.  There are some that argue that a single payer system mandated and administered by the Federal Government is the appropriate response.  I believe that this is misguided and will have many negative consequences.  Creating a massive government program providing universal healthcare will cripple our nation with debt and be ineffective in its application.  Government programs of this sort often experience an ineffective use of funds and fail to provide first rate services for the citizenry.

The private sector is much better equipped to address this issue than the government.  For this reason I will oppose any legislation aimed at denying an individual’s right to possess private health care.  An issue as important as a person’s health should not be encumbered by excessive government mandates stipulating what type of care that person may enroll in.

Government can play an important role in fostering the continued prosperity of the private health insurance market and the valuable services they provide.  No doubt, government has a role to play in taking care of those who cannot take care of themselves by providing a safety net via the Medicare and Medicaid programs.  I support tax incentives for individuals to purchase private health insurance.  This would be equivalent to what a business receives for enrollment of their employees.  By providing this relief, we can expand health insurance to more Americans while also protecting the free market’s ability to compete over your business.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me regarding this very important issue.  Please visit my website at www.coffman.house.gov if you would like more information on legislation that I am sponsoring, press releases, and my stance on other issues that are important to you.

Sincerely,

Michael Coffman

Member of Congress

There you have it constituents of CD6 Mike Coffman believes in the status quo. He supports insurance companies that can drop you on a whim if you get sick. Insurance companies that force you to send mounds of paperwork and jump through hoops to get a claim paid while making obscene profits off your premiums and denying legitimate claims.  Mike Coffman supports a healthcare system that is bankrupting our country and millions of Americans and forcing many to go without healthcare.  He supports a corrupt system that discourages cures and promotes toxic drugs and treatments that don’t work. It makes you wonder who his paymaster is.

Mike Coffman’s election is a sure sign that residents of CD6 are citizens clearly voting against their own interests.  At a town hall meeting it was mentioned why they have such a problem with a social safety net but not with corporate welfare.  Why Halliburton is allowed to take billions in taxpayer money with no accountability and they don’t bat an eyelash but when a single mom whose husband dies in Iraq wants to collect welfare she is demonized.  I would like to hear from his constituents. Can you explain this dichotomy?
