The Republican field of candidates for a race they can’t possibly win continues to grow.
The latest GOP contender to join the race for Governor in 2026 is Congresswoman Lauren Boebert’s handpicked candidate: A “ministry leader” named Victor Marx who seems to spend most of his time staring off contemplatively into the distance. In addition to Boebert’s, um, full-throated support, Marx is also being heavily touted by failed 2022 gubernatorial candidate Heidi Ganahl, the undisputed worst statewide candidate in Colorado history. So, there’s that.
As Kyle Clark notes for 9News, Marx kicked off his campaign for Governor on Wednesday to save all of us godless heathens:
NEW: Ministry leader and missionary Victor Marx is joining the crowded 2026 GOP primary for Colorado Governor promising to “challenge the godless ideology that has eroded Denver’s institutions and allowed corruption and cultural decay to spread.” #copolitics

So, who is this Victor Marx guy?
Marx seems to be one of those evangelical podcasters and public speakers who goes around the country telling people how to be a man and whatnot, which apparently makes him fairly popular on social media channels. A quick search of Google comes up with a virtually endless stream of captioned photos of Marx doing the “man looking into the distance” pose — which is the same general look he’s using for his campaign website.

We can see how some Colorado Republicans could talk themselves into a beefed-up version of Rep. Scott “There is No” Bottoms — who just lost his lane for Governor, if one existed. Marx is a straight-up caricature of the loud, “no nonsense,” podium-pounding speaker who becomes incredibly tedious after lecturing you for a few minutes.
Marx is also new to politics, which makes him a shiny object in the ridiculous field of has-beens that make up the 2026 Republican field of candidates for Governor. This includes establishment favorite Sen. Barb Kirkmeyer (R-Brighton), who has spent the last month trying to cram both feet in her mouth on issues from the budget to secession (run it back!). We knew that Ganahl is not a Barb fan, and clearly neither is Boebert, her relatively-new Weld County neighbor.

The odds were already slim that a Republican could even be competitive in a race for Governor against either Democratic hopeful, Sen. Michael Bennet or Attorney General Phil Weiser. Colorado has only elected a Republican for Governor once in the last 50 years, and the GOP lost the last two contests by 11 points and 20 points, respectively. But this new Marxism will undoubtedly add new fuel to the festering wound that has been the Colorado Republican Party in the last decade.
It appears that nobody likes Barb, and the MAGA wing of the state GOP is excited for a new infusion of toxic masculinity.
As we’ve long said about Colorado Republicans: If you want a better circus, add more clowns.
