Democrats Slam Joe Coors' Fat Checks To Self

As we strongly suspected last week amid the rush of “Joe Coors outraises Ed Perlmutterstories, it appears the “momentum” for Coors from his Q1 numbers is going to be short lived. Colorado Democrats released this statement a few minutes ago, after Coors’ detailed campaign finance disclosure report became available from the Federal Election Commission:

Just hours prior to the final deadline to report the source of his campaign cash, Joe Coors finally filed his FEC report which showed he gave and spent more of his own money on the campaign than he raised from individual donors.  Coors gave his campaign more than $218,000, while only raising a little more than $213,000.

In just three months, Joe Coors spent and paid more than $218,000 of his own money for campaign expenses, including more than $12,000 for redecorating his campaign office, nearly $100,000 for consultants (including nearly $40,000 just for two different research firms), and nearly $300 to rent golf carts for various campaign soirees.

Last week, Joe Coors announced he “raised” nearly $450,000 and that showed his campaign’s “broad-based” support.

“If Joe Coors’ “outpouring of support” and “broad-based support” continues to be based on his very own contributions, he is going to run into every self-funder’s problem: having fewer donors equals fewer votes,” said Colorado Democratic Party Chairman Rick Palacio.

It looks to us like Joe “Not a Beer” Coors’ campaign deliberately pushed the bogus story of him “outraising” Ed Perlmutter for the few days detailed FEC reports weren’t yet available, knowing more people would see the initial story than the news later that the first was not actually, you know, complete.

One hopes reporters will hesitate before giving him the benefit of the doubt next time.

    1. Polis might also chip in his own $s but he also has true broad based support and gets some grassroots donors volunteering and chipping in dollars.  There is just no end to ArapGophers butt nuzzling when it comes to a blueblood.

BTW, did you pony up your $50,000 for your guaranteed RMoney inauguration fete and private retreat yet?  He’s taking money from idiots willing to buy into the dream.  If you’re so sure of a Mittens win then you might want to break out the ol’ checkbook for a gift from your heart.

    2. No one is criticizing Coors for self-funding, just for pretending that there’s a groundswell of support for him when there isn’t.

I’m sure Joe is being put up to this in order to force Perlmutter and the Dems to spend more to protect his seat. It’s probably the only hope the GOP has in helping Tipton retain his seat.

  1. So if my computer calculator serves me correctly, Perlmutter raised $371,600 to Coor’s $213,000.

Or to put this in a way that Colorado Peak Politics can understand, Perlmutter outraised Coors by $158,600.00.

You’re welcome, guys. Feel free to just copy and paste my comment over at your wee blog as an update to your gushing diary about Republicans fundraising efforts five days ago.

    1. First, it’s possible that all the GOTP candidates this cycle are also self funding.  In which case (no pun intended) Joe not-a-beer Coors is just one symbol of how frustrated and energized rich guy candidates are, and how illing they are to take time out of their busy lives to stand up for …Joe Sixpack. (so to speak)

Second, you’re assuming the at the CPP crowd will read this here. And that they can read and wIll be able to do the math.   No one said there was gonna be math. And, as we all know cause the blond girl said it, math class is tough – let’s go shopping.

      1. Because I already did the math for them.

No one at CPP needs to put any effort in at all, mathematical or otherwise, other than some honest reporting, for a novel change.
