Lamborn Biggest Earmarker in Colorado

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

Some Conservative isn’t he?

Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn led Colorado’s seven-member House delegation in the dollar amount of earmarks he introduced in the current fiscal year, a watchdog group reported Tuesday.

With the release of its 19th annual “Pig Book,” Citizens Against Government Waste, a Washington-based group opposed to pork-barrel spending, also made public a database listing earmarks by each federal legislator.

It showed Lamborn’s earmarks for the fiscal year that began in October totalling $21.73 million, easily surpassing the $13.37 million total of Democratic Rep. John Salazar.

This is why people are disgruntled with both parties. They lie right out of their teeth and suck the fat of the American people.…

U.S. Attorney Troy Eid to Run for Attorney General

(He was bound to run for something – promoted by Colorado Pols)

From the Denver Post:

Colorado U.S. Attorney Troy Eid announced today that he will resign from office the day before a new presidential administration is inaugurated and will run for attorney general in 2010.

Eid will first rejoin the private firm Greenberg Traurig, where he worked from 2003 to 2006, but also announced his intention to seek the attorney general’s post in 2010. Attorney General John Suthers is expected to seek either the governor’s office or a senate spot that fall.

Eid was expected to resign his post in the next couple of months because of the incoming Obama Administration.

Eid’s term began in August 2006 and in that time, he says he has increased the number of prosecutors in his office and effectively targeted gangs and illegal immigration cases across the state.

He has also spent much of his time in office working with American Indian tribes on training hundreds of tribal police on federal law enforcement.

Eid, the first Egyptian-American to be appointed a U.S. Attorney, was raised in Wheat Ridge and has lived in Golden since 1971.

I.O.U.S.A—-A Must See!

This is a 30 minute clip from I.O.U.S.A that was written by David Walker, the former Comptroller General of the United States (or top accountant). If you don’t get scared by this, than I have no idea what would scare you.

Bailout My Student Loans

I am a college graduate, with a degree in Political Science, and I am currently getting my Masters Degree. Therefore, I am asking the federal government to bail me out of my student loan obligations.

I figure if we are going to bailout every thing else that has to do with credit, I would really like one myself. I work hard. I worked for my education and still do so to this day. I am a true American, and I figure I am worthy of a bail out. A total forgiveness of my debt would be very nice. It would lift this burden off my back, and will let me be more prosperous.

Now, doesn’t that sound ridiculous?! Well that is what our government is currently doing right now. They are going to bailout stupidity for the sake of their electoral sanity. They care more about what the retard that purchased a loan they knew they couldn’t pay thinks, for the sake of their vote.

Our government is in the process of socializing our economy. Rather, what we really need is a dramatic cut in the size of our government. It has gotten to big, and we are seeing that unfold right before our eyes. We are spending out of control, and with a $700 Billion bailout, our national debt is going to take a hit, and that burden will be up to future generations to take care of.

The time to act is now, and we need a leader who will stand up to the plate, and save our Republic. Liberty must thrive here. That is the only way to solve this crisis.

McCain Picks Romney

Now, I know this is a little premature, but I thought I would put it out there. A blog that is respected called Libertarian Republican is reporting that McCain has picked Romney as his VP.

“Those are the words precisely as were relayed to LR Blog just minutes ago, from a very reliable insider source. He was unequivocal. Our source also indicated that Fox News has the story.”

This is not a bad pick if it is true for McCain. Also, if this is true, this would be the perfect way to reign in on Obama’s VP Pick. We will just have to wait and see.

John Edwards Admitts to Affair-Lied as a Presidential Candidate

(We’ll buy it from a non-whacko source – promoted by Colorado Pols)

From ABC News

John Edwards repeatedly lied during his Presidential campaign about an extramarital affair with a novice filmmaker, the former Senator admitted to ABC News today.

In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 44-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her.

Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter’s baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test.

Edwards said he knew he was not the father based on timing of the baby’s birth on February 27, 2008. He said his affair ended too soon for him to have been the father.

Guess everyone should have believed the tabloid this time!

According to friends of Hunter, Edwards met her at a New York city bar in 2006. His political action committee later paid her $114,000 to produce campaign website documentaries despite her lack of experience.

Edwards said the affair began during the campaign after she was hired. Hunter traveled with Edwards around the country and to Africa.

Edwards said his wife, Elizabeth, and others in his family became aware of the affair in 2006.

Edwards made a point of telling Woodruff that his wife’s cancer was in remission when he began the affair with Hunter. Elizabeth Edwards has since been diagnosed with an incurable form of the disease.

When the National Enquirer first reported the alleged Edwards-Hunter affair last October 11, Edwards, his campaign staff and Hunter vociferously denounced the report.

“The story is false, it’s completely untrue, it’s ridiculous,” Edwards told reporters then.

He repeated his denials just two weeks ago.

Edwards today admitted the National Enquirer was correct when it reported he had visited Hunter at the Beverly Hills Hilton last month.

The former Senator said his wife had not known about the meeting.

House GOP Keeps Talking, Despite Dems Turning Off the Lights!

From the Politico

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the Democrats adjourned the House and turned off the lights and killed the microphones, but Republicans are still on the floor talking gas prices.

Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and other GOP leaders opposed the motion to adjourn the House, arguing that Pelosi’s refusal to schedule a vote allowing offshore drilling is hurting the American economy. They have refused to leave the floor after the adjournment motion passed at 11:23 a.m. and are busy bashing Pelosi and her fellow Democrats for leaving town for the August recess.

At one point, the lights went off in the House and the microphones were turned off in the chamber, meaning Republicans were talking in the dark. But as Rep. John Shadegg (R-Ariz..) was speaking, the lights went back on, and the microphones have been turned on as well.

But C-SPAN, which has no control over the cameras in the chamber, has stopped broadcasting the House floor, meaning no one is witnessing this except the assembled Republicans, their aides, and one Democrat, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), who has now left.

Only about a half-dozen Republicans were on the floor when this began, but the crowd has grown to about 20 now, according to Patrick O’Connor.

“This is the people’s House,” Rep, Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.) said. “This is not Pelosi’s politiburo.”

Democratic aides were furious at the GOP stunt, and reporters were kicked out of the Speaker’s Lobby, the space next to the House floor where they normally interview lawmakers.

“You’re not covering this, are you?” complaing one senior Democratic aide. Another called the Republicans “morons” for staying on the floor.

The Updates

Update – The Capitol Police are now trying to kick reporters out of the press gallery above the floor, meaning we can’t watch the Republicans anymore. But Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) is now in the gallery talking to reporters, so the cops have held off for a minute. Clearly, Democrats don’t want Republicans getting any press for this episode. GOP leaders are trying to find other Republicans to rotate in for Blunt so reporters aren’t kicked out.

Update 2 – This message was sent out by Blunt’s office:

“Although, this Democrat Majority just Adjourned for the Democrat 5-Week Vacation, House Republicans are continuing to fight on the House Floor. Although the lights, mics and C-SPAN camera’s have been turned off, House Republicans are on the Floor speaking to the tax payers in the gallery who, not surprisingly, agree with Republican Energy proposals.

All Republicans who are in town are encouraged to come to the House Floor.”

Update 3 – Democrats just turned out the lights again. Republicans cheered.

Update 4 – Republican leaders just sent out a notice looking for a bullhorn and leadership aides are trying to corral all the members who are still in town to come speak on the floor and sustain this one-sided debate.

Also, Republicans can thank Shadegg for turning on the microphones the first time. Apparently, the fiesty Arizona conservative started typing random codes into the chamber’s public address system and accidentally typed the correct code, allowing Republicans brief access to the microphone before it was turned off again.

“I love this,” Shadegg told reporters up in the press gallery afterward. “Congress can be so boring…This is a kick.”

Bob Barr Polling at 8% in Colorado

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

According to Zogby International Bob Barr, the Libertarian candidate for President, is polling at a respective 8% in the state that could decide the election.

Obama – 40%

McCain – 38%

Barr – 8%

As the election for the Presidency of the United States heats up, many states are going to be in play across the country. One in particular that could decide the election is the state of Colorado. Even though Colorado has only 9 electoral votes, it could be the deciding number of votes that tips the election one way or the other.

Supreme Court Rules 2nd Amendment Individual Right

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

Today the Supreme Court ruled in the case of Heller v. District of Columbia that the Second Amendment of the Constitution is an individual right. From

Answering a 217-year old constitutional question, the Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to have a gun, at least in one’s home. The Court, splitting 5-4, struck down a District of Columbia ban on handgun possession. Although times have changed since 1791, Justice Antonin Scalia said for the majority, “it is not the role of this Court to pronounce the Second Amendment extinct.”

This is a historic day for the court, because this is the first time in the history of our Republic that the court has defined what the Second Amendment means. Many have thought that the militia clause of the Amendment governed the whole, and that it meant only militaries and law enforcement have a right to bear arms. But the court today relied on the “right of the people” clause to justify their ruling.

This should open up a lot of legal challenges to laws the prohibit the possesion of fire arms.

Here are some quotes from Justice Scalia’s majority opinion to give you a grasp of what the majority was thinking.

“Logic demands that there be a link between the stated purpose and the command.”

“We start therefore with a strong presumption that the Second Amendment right is exercised individually and belongs to all Americans.”

“the most natural reading of ‘keep Arms’ in the Second Amendment is to “have weapons.”

“The term was applied, then as now, to weapons that were not specifically designed for military use and were not employed in a military capacity.”

“Putting all of these textual elements together, we find that they guarantee the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation.”

“Thus, we do not read the Second Amendment to protect the right of citizens to carry arms for any sort of confrontation, just as we do not read the First Amendment to protect the right of citizens to speak for any purpose.”

From the New York Post

Tim Russert, NBC journalist and political heavyweight host of “Meet the Press,” has died after collapsing at NBC’s Washington news bureau, a source said. He was 58 years old.

I was shocked to have just read this. I had a lot of respect for this man.

Ron Pauls Campaign for Liberty

Ron Paul has finally ended his campaign for the Presidency of the United States. From the Wall Street Journal,

“Paul’s exit from the race was just a formality. He never had a shot at the nomination but his grassroots candidacy cultivated national interest and was fueled by an online fund-raising operation of small donors who saw promise in Paul’s political message”

With his exit from the Presidential arena he has put together another campaign, the Campaign for Liberty.

“The Texas lawmaker is hoping that base will transfer to his new political effort, whose mission is to elect more libertarian-minded candidates, like Paul, to office. “We’ll make our presence felt at every level of government, where just a few people with our level of enthusiasm can make a world of difference. We’ll keep an eye on Congress and lobby against legislation that threatens us,” Paul writes on his new site. “We’ll identify and support political candidates who champion our great ideas against the empty suits the party establishments offer the public. We will be a permanent presence on the American political landscape. That I promise you.”

Lionel Rivera Endorses Bentley Rayburn in CD-5

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

From KOAA in Colorado Springs:

Colorado Springs Mayor Lionel Rivera endorsed Bentley Rayburn for Congress. Rayburn is seeking the republican nomination for the 5th congressional seat currently held by Doug Lamborn.

Rivera cited Rayburn’s military experience in his endorsement. “Realizing that our nation is involved in a long, protracted war, coupled with the fact that this community is the home to five military installations, leads me to believe that it is critical for the congressman representing this district to have military experience.”

This is a pretty big endorsement for the General and well deserved. He is showing that he can drum up support from prominent officials in CD5.

Supreme Court Upholds Lethal Injection

The United States Supreme Court has upheld the use of lethal injection as a form of execution in this country. This is a big milestone in the argument over the death penalty in the case of Baze v. Rees. The court handed down a 7-2 ruling stating

“To constitute cruel and unusual punishment, an execution

method must present a “substantial” or “objectively intolerable” risk

of serious harm. A State’s refusal to adopt proffered alternative procedures

may violate the Eighth Amendment only where the alternative

procedure is feasible, readily implemented, and in fact significantly

reduces a substantial risk of severe pain.”

The majority consisted of Chief Justice Roberts, delivering the opinion, Justice Kennedy, Justice Alito, Justice Stevens, Justice Scalia, Justice Thomas, and Justice Bryer. The two dissenters in the case were Justice Ginsburg, and Justice Souter.

This is a tremendous victory for proponents of the death penalty. It is even more tremendous for the states in general, because the main form of execution in this country is by lethal injection.

It is great to see such a strong statement from the court on a controversial issue by having a clear majority in this case. The right decision was made and should set a precedent for future death penalty cases.

What will probably happen now, is the only way to get rid of the death penalty in this country is to outlaw it all together. Lethal injection has been declared humane in the sense that killing somebody is humane. Criminals will now be punished for cruel crimes and not have a shelter in the Supreme Court. If they are found to be guilty of the crime, the price they pay will be their life.

There He Goes Again!

Just when you thought that the Reverend Wright controversy was over, he opens his big mouth again and blasts the founding fathers of this great country. From FoxNews, Wright had this to say about our greatest minds in American history,

Wright, who is on sabbatical before retiring from Trinity United, said America’s mistreatment of blacks is the result of the founding fathers, who “planted slavery and white supremacy in the DNA of this republic.”

If that is not enough for you, he then had this to say about Thomas Jefferson, who probably worked the hardest of the founding generation, to end slavery,

Thomas Jefferson, who partook in “pedophilia,” would also be considered unpatriotic these days because he wrote, “God would punish America for the sin of slavery.”

He takes a cheap shot at Jefferson, while sort of praising him for saying good things about slavery.

We wonder when this guy will get a clue and shut his mouth. He bashes the same country that has given him the opportunity to preach such harsh words. If it wasn’t for the founders of this country, none of us would be here, and we would not have the luxury of free speech.

Go get a clue reverend, and learn to realize that not everything is some grand conspiracy against the black race. And shame on you Barack Obama for supporting such a lunatic and giving him a huge amount of money for spewing his hatred of the United States.
