  1. Pretty accurate.  To think…. Dems finally get the whole enchilada and this is what we’re stuck with for congressional “leadership”. The cosmos has a great sense of humor.

  2. Both the real one and the fake one. It’s a tough job balancing everyone as Speaker and I think she pulls that off well.

As to Reid – worthless. If LBJ was still running the Senate this would already be passed with the Republicans who voted against it apologizing to him.

    1. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02

“Mr. Obama should have written up a kosher (as in pork-free) bill that Americans could trust – and Republicans couldn’t as easily mock – and jammed it through.”

Couldn’t agree more. So Democrats compromise by giving up relief to States and Education. Now we have another $800 billion Republican bill (42 percent tax cuts) that will not stimulate the economy (Reagan Economics doesn’t work). And, Democrats will get the blame.

Democrats fall for the same tactics again and again and again and again.

      1. What was the big Republican objection to the stimulus package? That it would get spent on construction projects, one of which included the national mall? That was the whole fucking point of the stimulus bill. The Republican complaint made no sense.

It got repeated so often that even some of our own started falling for those stupid arguments.

Many of the tax cuts aren’t necessary and won’t stimulate the economy. But they were an Obama campaign promise: middle class tax cut. That’s how he got elected. Stuff in the package that’s just stupid caving to Republicans is very very small, but apparently our side doesn’t have a great sense of numbers either.

          1. in the original bill. You do realize that “stimulus” and “spending” are words for the same thing, right? The bill was designed to do what it was supposed to. The fact that John McCain doesn’t understand this doesn’t mean it isn’t so.

          2. I gave you an example of something frequently called “pork” and explained why it actually wasn’t, in the context of stimulus. You responded with nothing at all. If you have a legitimate example of one thing that’s unambiguously pork, let alone a ton, go ahead and give it.

  3. Obamas and Clintons (yes, Clintons), Jed Bartlett’s and other real and fictional nobel prize winning scholar-politicos…. But given the plethora of political hacks and blind ideologues in power, I’d rather have political hacks and blind ideologues whose blind ideologies are more in line with the analyses of those aforementioned thoughtful politicians than those unmentionable boobs who swallow and regurgitate shallow lines like “Government is the problem,” and promote shallow ideas like the claim that Creationism is a scientific theory that should be taught on equal footing as evolution to our already culture-of-ignorance saturated kids.

I’m not impressed by either Reid or Pelosi, but I’d rather have them than their equally unimpressive counterparts supporting far less impressive positions.

  4. The House Dems screwed up, providing the huge targets for right wing incredulity is… well… a dumb thing that should have been avoided.  I just marvel at the incorrigability of the House Dems.  There IS a leadership issue here.  Maybe some of those newly elected centrist Dem House members should be appointed to some kind of steering committee.  I think the ‘adult supervision’ approach in the Senate will take the condoms, etc. out, but why the unneeded drama?  We are helping to make Mike Pence the voice of reason.  Can’t the House leadership do better than this?

    1. Two weeks after the inauguration and the circular firing squad is already claiming casualties?

Many people dislike Democrats because they seem like such navel-gazing masochistic insecure wimps, who cower in fear as soon as they get any criticism from the nutjobs.
