How can 2,000,000+ people get into Washington DC in sub zero temps in 1 day with high security when 200,000 couldn’t get out of New Orleans at 85 degrees with a 4 day notice?
its the poor people’s fault their governments failed them.
to centigrade…
The heat index actually put in near 100 in N.O.
considering wind chill. And you know how I hate to admit that Taddy.
Has anyone noticed what was written about (by) Frances Owens in the February issue of 5280? I know the Rocky picked up on her being in it but without mentioning what she said. It’s very amusing reading. She’s in an article on Denver’s Top Singles.
There are always rumors flying around the rail at the capitol. Some even turn out to be true.
However, this one is wild but in this political season, I am ready to believe almost anything (though this does seem very unlikely).
The latest rumour has Bill Ritter becoming the Ambassador to the Vatican.
If true, would Chaput support it?
And in case you are interested or have forgotten, the last Coloradan to serve in the post was Jim Nicholson.
One bullet to add…
* Lifelong Taxpayer Admitted to multiple tax crimes months after being put forward as HHS Secretary. $140,000 in back taxes that he won’t be able to write off in 2009-2010, all in order to be named to the post.
here’s the third to have a tax problem and due to missed taxes to her nanny. But in her case it was only $946.69 – so unlike the other two – she’s withdrawing.
but get what you’re saying. For me the amount of money Daschle has made from the healthcare players ordinary Americans are up against is the more disturbing element.
Daschle isn’t going to do anything to solve the problem if he’s already in cahoots with the ones that are causing it.
Yes, that is an influence. On the other hand, several non-profit groups working on affordable health care seem to consider Daschle an important ally. That means a lot to me. We’ll see what happens in the end, I suppose.
or so I have heard, so your point is well taken cdsmith.
IMHO it is going to take some real pushback on the health insurers and big pharma in order to make healthcare affordable and accessible again, that’s why I just think it was disturbing to see these types of ties with Daschle. Anyway, he’s withdrawn from consideration so we’re back to square one.
It’s possible that she withdrew out of old fashioned embarrassment, the way honorable people do.
The other two just want the power. And, after all, taxes are for the little people.
if you are unable to get your taxes right.
I’m poor and I just don’t have these problems.
Just makes me feel so “Hopey-Changey”…
Daschle is technically a health care lobbyist and a tax cheat, so he should not be confirmed as head of HHS. He would be good at the job, but ethics are more important right now.
over Dachle’s withdrawal (though concerned about Obama finding someone on the side of the public, with the expertise and well liked enough to help work out deals), he is not “technically” a lobbyist. He is not a registered lobbyist but has served as a consultant to lobbyists. Maybe you meant he might as well be a lobbyist?
Wouldn’t that be a dream? Then Romanoff could run in the special election!
…as I’d love to see her gone from that seat (Romanoff would be awesome, BTW) I don’t want her anywhere near my health coverage. Or my checkbook for someone else’s health coverage.
a well liked work across the aisle type. She’s an ideologue from a liberal district, not what Obama is looking for. Not what we need to build enough support to get the heavy lifting done on something as tough as healthcare reform. Same problem only more so for Howard Dean. Agree with both of you that Romanoff would be great for a special election but don’t hold your breath for a DeGette appointment.
to a country that we have really minimal financial or foreign policy interaction with?
Switzerland?
perhaps Kyrgyzstan?
Or less troublesome for our image, like Andorra?
He’s withdrawn his nomination, according to Politico.com
