Lamborn edits news stories for use on his website

Censoring parts of a Rocky Mountain News article, Doug Lamborn posted a “doctored” story on his website.

Rocky Mountain News, in response to the censorship ran the following stories.

http://www.rockymountainnews.c…

http://www.rockymountainnews.c…

Lamborn reproduced a recent Rocky Mountain News profile about his campaign on his Web site but deleted almost all criticisms in it leveled against him by businessman Jeff Crank and retired Air Force officer Bentley Rayburn.

In their place are ellipses denoting something was taken from the article.

It is not uncommon for candidates to feature stories that they feel are favorable to them on campaign sites, but it is extremely rare for them to edit the story to their liking.

Sentences removed

Three sentences from a Rocky Mountain News profile that Doug Lamborn removed from the story before posting it on his campaign Web site:

* “They say he lacks leadership or accomplishments in Congress.”

* “Opponents accuse him of ineffectiveness, pointing to only 34 votes he was able to get in trying to continue a study on expanding Fort Carson’s Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site.”

* “Despite criticisms of overspending on constituent mailers – he’s spent more than any other House member from Colorado. . . . “

    1. Ever read a movie review?

This happens all the time in business, in politics, and in publishing.  Both parties do it.  It is a common practice.

And Lamborn did not distort or misquote the good things they said about him, his campaign simply chose NOT to quote the less complimentary things they also said.

He was under no ethical obligation to quote the entire story.  If that concept existed, there would never again be a “sound bite”, and half hour newscast would take 3 hours.

This is NO BIG DEAL, except to the CRANKy among us.

      1. when they said “It is not uncommon for candidates to feature stories that they feel are favorable to them on campaign sites, but it is extremely rare for them to edit the story to their liking.”?  I realize this is common in movie reviews appearing on posters; but I don’t think I’ve seen it on campaign web sites before.  It’s at least marginally suspicious.

        1. and the Lamborn campaign must have agreed, as it quickly pulled the sanitized story from its web site. Pulling a few blurbs (as movie reviews do) is one thing. Posting an entire article while excising the critical parts is quite another.

      1. From my second ever post as a blogger.

An OPEN letter to all CRANKy Republicans

        TO: All CRANKy Republicans

You guys who remain, “In the Tank for Crank”, Get a Life, Your guy lost.  Get Over it.

…My dear robert ; You really need to get your crystal ball fixed, you are WRONG again.  You know what happens when you ASSUME  (Its on your wall by now from Aristotle  ).  The last assembly I attended was in High School.  I was in business remember. I know Duncan as a county commissioner.  He had a voting record, but it was not relevant. How he votes on land use and County Park Awareness Week tells me little.  I like Duncan and Bentley, and would support them for a State House position.  Then we would have a voting record and could see what they are like in a legislative position.

I have good friends whom I respect that favored Mr. Rayburn, and other friends who favored and some who worked for Jeff Crank. None of my close friends was an advocate for either Mayor Reviera or Duncan Bremer. After meeting Doug Lamborn and talking to him face to face, I chose Lamborn.  Doug Lamborn is a sincere and honest conservative with an excellent voting record. I wish every representative from the Colorado delegation had Lamborn’s voting record. I stand by what I wrote, because it is true. When you try to impugn some one you don’t know by telling that person what he thought or what he is, you are not only likely to be wrong, but even more likely to look foolish.

        robert wrote

“..Then there is your appearance on this blog with the creation of a new account the same day that another “Lamborn supporter” just happened to show up….”

And that could not possibly be because we both read the same article in the same 100,000 circulation local newspaper.

        robert wrote

..”Anyone who reads this blog for any length of time knows the regulars and who supports which candidates”….

So any Conservative who shows up that doesn’t see it your way is…….what ?

        …robert wrote

“You quote Lamborn’s talking points verbatim and you misrepresent yourself in the process”….

You have it backwards. I don’t support Lamborn because I agree with his positions, I support Lamborn because he agrees with my positions and votes them in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Its 2007, and there is no active campaign to get talking points from.  If the Lamborn campaign wants to borrow or improve on what I said, they are welcome to them.  But those are my words, and my thoughts.

        robert wrote

..”I am a very conservative Christian Republican. I get routinely bashed for defending my views here so please dont call me a RINO…”

I am not the one calling names here.  I have never suggested you are a WINO or a RINO.  What you sound like is much much worse than either.

I suspect you are a CRANKy Republican.  Someone who is so blinded by the events of a long past brutal primary campaign, they can no longer rationally speak about what is best for the party or the conservative voters interests when it comes to the major players in said primary.

        robert wrote ” .

.I am opposed to Lamborn because, while I agree with pretty much everything he purports to stand for, I abhor his lack of character, ethics, and personal integrity..”.

How insane is that? Purports..Purports?  The man has a 12 year voting record in the Colorado House and Senate, and the best Republican voting record in the current US House of Representatives.  There ain’t no Purports about it.  You are a card carrying CRANKy Republican.  No logic or reason necessary for you.  All you know is the anointed heir to Joel Hefly (his former aide and paid lobbyist Jeff Crank) had an unfair thing said about him by a 527.  Get over it.

        robert wrote

“Lamborn’s folks have pretty much quit trying to justify his behavior because it’s too hard.”

You may have hit on the truth, but not like you think.  The reason that the Lamborn supporters stop talking to the CRANKy Republicans about this issue may simply be fatigue at trying to communicate their true and honest beliefs to “my guy was wronged” fanatics that pounce on anyone who supports their elected Congressman.  But I suspect  what rally bugs you so much that you change the subject to what day I signed onto what blog, is this truth that you want to ignore.

Lamborn received 60% of the vote in the General election. Doug Lamborn will win my vote and my precinct by a wide margin in the primary next year, (and for many years to come), so long as he stays true to his principals.

And that my friend is a fact, you all don’t want to face. NEWSMAN
