Lauren Boebert "Goes Woke" On Christopher Columbus?

Nothing makes sense anymore.

That’s the head-scratching takeaway from this report from The Hill’s Ashleigh Fields via FOX 31:

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) urged lawmakers to stop making fun of President Trump’s decision to rename the Gulf of America, suggesting the nation’s capital could undergo the same change.

“I would caution my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to refrain from making jokes about the Gulf of America because next up may be the District of America that we are working on,” Boebert said during a Tuesday hearing for the House Natural Resources Committee. [Pols emphasis]

Boebert made these remarks at a legislative hearing for the Gulf of America Act to support Trump’s executive order through technical amendments…

Now, we’re not completely sure if Colorado’s crusader for all the “Western Culture” you can find outside of a classroom Rep. Lauren Boebert was kidding about renaming the District of Columbia the “District of America” to match the jingoistic appropriation of the Gulf of Mexico’s centuries-old identity. But if she was being serious, she could have unexpected allies with the substantial percentage of Americans who believe that venerating D.C.’s namesake Christopher Columbus is a celebration of genocide–a decidedly “woke” cause that Boebert herself has historically complained about. Here in Colorado, as readers know, the observance of Columbus Day was abolished five years ago, and replaced with a day honoring Italian immigrant and saint Mother Cabrini.

If Boebert has “gone woke” on Christopher Columbus to the point of wanting to rename the District of Columbia, that’s big news.

But most likely, Boebert has merely outsnarked herself once again.
