Look, Up in the Sky, It's Herb!

Our old pal Herb Rubenstein is on the road to respectability, though whether or not he can get there in time to be a player in the Democratic primary is another question altogether. Herb outpolled Ed Perlmutter and more than doubled Peggy Lamm in a poll conducted by Be the Change on the Democratic candidates in CD-7.

  1. In fairness to Ed, Herb was working fairly hard to get people to register for BTC and publicize the poll.

At the last ‘Drinking Liberally’ event he brought xeroxed copies of the website and was urging people to join and vote.

Truth is, I don’t think there is anything wrong about candidates actually campaigning. This poll was Herb’s focus, and he made it work. This poll was one of many constituencies that value Ed, and I think the results reflected that as well.
      Peggy lost because…?

If your point is that Peggy lost because she didn’t try, and that Peggy is going to lose the caucus because she won’t try, and that Peggy couldn’t stay in the legislature because she didn’t try, then all I can say is that I can’t wait to see what Peggy doesn’t try next.
She is getting good at losing that way.

  2. Change Schmange!

You know how the saying goes – the more things change, the more they stay the same. I mean come on – paying $10 to vote in an informal web-poll? I would have thought that BTC would want to make it easier to vote not harder. I guess they needed to raise big cash to get out their message?just like everyone else.

By the way, I will bet 7 Million electrons that at least 85 percent of the people who voted in the BTC poll were family, friends, or campaign workers of the candidates. You can be sure that the payoff is a shocking experience.

    Yours,
    Clock Rhymer

  3. I like BTC as well, and do not see them as being “radicals” either.  They are a good representation off a section of the Colorado population who is getting more passionate about politics.  A lot of that has to do with Mike Miles.  I have seen people cry when he speaks.

Go Herb!  I am all for primaries as long as they stay civil.

  4. Can we please stop with the comments about how this poll or that poll isn’t really scientific? Of course none of these polls are scientific, and we’ve all figured that out a long time ago. You’re not that smart for pointing it out.

  5. Well BTC is a more leftist group and herb is by far the left-o of the group. I know when I was at the BTC event Ed got the coolest feel from the room. I know Ed asked people to sign up and vote for him and he still lost.

  6. You know when they say “not a scientific poll?”  It’s true.

I like Be The Change, and this was a fun poll that attracted interest.  But the results really are meaningless, coming from a self-selected group who are on BTC’s mailing list.  And the poll system in their Mambo server isn’t hard to monkeywrench if you wanted–a short script could do it.

So this is fun and helps Herb’s name among those who see it, but please don’t read anything into it.

  7. Who won at the State Assembly, though?  If Miles, who obviously had the support of the BTC crowd, also pulled out the victory through the Caucus and Assembly process, then I’d say the BTC vote – no matter how contrary to the polls on primary day – is important to the candidates until the Assembly in May.

Also, I’m beginning to dislike the “BTC is leftist” meme.  I disagree.  What they are, is more idealistic and less willing to temper their voices on issues.  For example, I would bet that a majority of the BTC folk want more fiscal responsibility deep down than many New Democrats or DLCers; but that also means that a lot of BTCers are more willing to talk about what exactly it would take to balance the Federal Budget, and damn the consequences of mentioning things like “restore taxes on the wealthy” or “cut military spending on boondoggle projects”.  It’s not more Leftist, it’s more outspoken.

  8. If Herb Rubenstein is the choice of BTC, it speaks volumes about the credibility and insightfulness of BTC. These folks are all well-meaning nutballs..Herb included…god help us in November if these are the voices of the future.

  9. Herb seems to be on the right track. After attending events where all three CD7 candidates debated one another, I have decided to endorse Herb Rubenstein. Herb speaks clearly and directly on the war and health care, while the other candidates do not take strong stands on these important matters to the voters of the 7th District. I have complete faith in Mr. Rubenstein mostly because he is educated on the issues and has a strong stance on all of them, a commendable quality that I would like to see taken to our country’s Congress.

  10. Herb has built a base in six months, and gained a strong reputation and a following and that usually takes someone six years.  Since this is his first run for office, he brings a newness to politics.  He is going to issue a White Paper on ?New Politics? that will shake up politics in the 7th CD, in Colorado and in the U.S.  Keep your eye out.

  11. People want change.  Herb represents change.  He is not backed by the establishment like his two Democratic opponents and the Republican.  He is going to be a force in Colorado politics and his surge in popularity over the past six months shows that he will be a force sooner rather than later.

  12. Not only are Jeffco Pols comments NOT an apology what you have written is just rude.  I have kept my email address in my husband’s memory an email address which my husband set up for me a long time ago.  Dave’s email address was Dave@commish3.com.

If you don’t remember my husband died On Feb. 11, 2009 just a little over 7 months ago.  I see you have no respect for a person who still loves their husband and wants to keep the memories of him.

You are very SICK people who hide with names like Jeffco Pols…why can’t you use your real name, I use my real name.

You were wrong in printing the lie that I was running for Commissioner.  Did it damage my reputation…that would be up to a court to decide.  However, by putting my name up on your line you exposed me to more lies from people like yourselves.

You do not have enough brains to contact Commissioner McCasky and ask him for my phone number to ASK me if I was running for Commissioner.  You did not confirm if this  rumor about me ws true, even when you could check out this rumor.  This is the reason NO ONE should believe what you people say on this Fourm/Blog.

You can lie about anything and not be held responsible. When someone holds your feet to the fire you are just plain rude.

  13. All of you that have posted here with rude unfeeling comments have proven my case for libel.  When a persons name is put up for public office scum such as yourselvs can hide behind fake names and state lies, rumors, and make very mean comments about people you have never met or talked with about their views or their side of the story.

    You are COWARDS!

Our Founding Fathers would hate people like you.  Our Founding Fathers stood up used their names put their lives on the line for the freedoms you enjoy today.

Dave was a man much like the Founding Fathers and he did an excellent job for the people of Jefferson County.  What he got for that was lies on this site and in the newspapers.

You need to ask yourselves why we have such bad politicians, you need to look in the mirror.  You chase off any GOOD people with your lies, rumors and unfounded mean statements.

May God have mercy on your souls.
