  1. I went to the JeffCo convention (not as a Gravel representative, mind you, we have no CO delegates) and bummed around with the Polis people a bit, then went on to the different HD races I have interests in.

My legs no longer functioned at about noon, running around between the Mines’ student, rec, and Green centers since 7 AM. Good thing, because I then commenced to sit in a crowded conference room for the next 4 hours in my HD meeting.

Now I’m sitting again, this time on ice. I love democracy.

      1. Generally, the whole layout was 2:1 Obama in the Presidential race, but I don’t think the JeffCo Dems have released anything officially yet.

Oh yeah, one other thing. After all the alternates sat around for 5 hours, due to a computer error, none of them were seated.

Also, a ham sandwich cost me 6 bucks. It wasn’t even that tasty, either.

          1. Jason Bane gave a rousing speech, but he’s running unopposed.

I know that Vince Chowdhury only got 35% in his HD-22 race, but I left the HD-24 convention early to go see what was going on in 26, so I couldn’t tell you if Dave Ruchman is on the ballot or not. He’s running a good campaign.

I’m just guessing here, but it was probably an overwhelming win for Joan in 2, and probably Collins in 6. Both were expected, so I doubt I’m telling you anything new.

              1. And I thought Boulder was Polis Country! Jared hasn’t lived up to any of the standards he established for himself during this campaign. Where do the goal posts move to now?

          2. I think Dave Ruchman surprised the party pros by just missing top line with about 49% of the vote.  One quirk was that the HD Chair reversed the stated agenda of the House District Assembly and put off the vote on the State Rep till the end of a long day.  As a result, there were about 200 Delegates who had already left.

  2. that Joan took top line at the Jeffco assembly?

I was expecting Boulder to swing more for Jared; the results are disappointing for his campaign, I’m sure.

So, assuming things go down on May 10th like it appears they must, how does the race change with Will Shafroth back in the mix leading up to the primary?  Does Will draw from Joan, Jared, both?  I have to admit I’m a bit unsure of how that will work.

    1. I think practically every elected official in JeffCo supports Joan, because they served with her at one point in time or another.

I wouldn’t be too disappointed about Jared. If there’s anything that his campaign is capable of, it’s running a very tight campaign now that they’re on the ballot.

    2. My feel is that he will draw from both. Although probably not equally, I’m not sure who he would draw from more. His fitting into the mold of Mark Udall and the district will probably hurt Joan more than Jared. But the fact that he is an outsider will probably draw more votes from Jared than Joan.

  3.  My wife and I went to the Jeffco Assembly as  precinct delegates. Like Skyler we had the sandwich (turkey). Got to say that AJ Clemmons really inspired as a candidate for CU Regent. Couldn’t hurt to have a Golden Gloves champion mixing it up with bb. Jason Bane was impressive as candidate for County Commissioner.

Mike Collins and Hank Eng had great speeches as well. Who knows, even CD6 might happen this time. Ed Perlmutter’s just a great leader, organizer and speaker. He endorsed Senator Obama. Lot of energy flowing. Don’t know the numbers yet, but the field house was full. Just a guess but I’m thinking that when Rep. Perlmutter asked how many people were at their first Assembly, 80-90% raised their hand. (I’m serious). Sara Gagliardi said that Jeffco’s never seen a turnout even close to this one. Biggest eye popper for me was the incredible turnout of young Democrats. These kids are sharp, motivated, and involved. They know what’s going on and are right in the middle of it.I couldn’t believe how many young ones were jockying and politicking for State Delegate.  Jeffco’s come a long way in 4 years.

    1. One of the delegates who I think will go on was a classmate & teammate of my daughter’s and I coached her back in 4th & 5th grade for soccer. Weird to now have her as a delegate but she was great there – I voted for her and asked others to vote for her.

    2. Yes, the light may finally be shining on Jefferson County! We have often asked in the last 7 years, “Where’s the outrage?”  Perhaps we were looking for the same kind of tumultuous social response that we saw in the 70’s, but I think what’s happening here is a deliberate, intelligent backlash carried out within the lines of party involvement.

What I witnessed on Saturday may be the result of a political trend with more depth and breadth than that of 35 years ago, because it is based on a batch of young politicos that have had to do more work to sort through the information labrynth to get to that golden mean in politics, CRITICAL THINKING.

The gains that we are on the brink of achieving will have been won the hard way, and I think many of these young bucks are in for the long haul. Hallelujia.

    3. Someone from the Dems ought to look at this district closely.  The Republican nominated from the floor last week gave one of the best speeches of the day.  Funny, likeable, approachable, self-depracating well-spoken.  With Gagliardi’s lack of talent in these areas, this might be a sleeper race, especially in this district.
