If you’re reading this blog today, you no doubt have heard that Republican Rep. Doug Bruce kicked some ass knee down at the state legislature today…literally. As State 38 reports, Bruce is not protected from a lawsuit because he wasn’t technically a legislator when he kicked a photographer:
it’s unclear whether or not Temple will sue the pants off of Bruce for assaulting one of his photographers. I heard he’s already yelled at everyone from House Minority Leader Mike May to good ‘ole Dick Wadhams, but will he take the next step and go to court over it? Ironically, legislators on the house floor normally have immunity from those sorts of lawsuits, but because of the aforementioned swearing-in tantrum Bruce technically wasn’t a legislator at the time he delivered the kick heard round the statehouse.
Here’s a question for State38 readers – should John Temple, the Rocky’s editor, sue Rep. Bruce? Poll after the jump.
The poll is after the State 38 jump, not here. To vote, go there.

He kicked a knee. Kicking an ass would not be that much of an issue. But he was trying to take that photographers knee out. The guy should have kicked bruce hard, just below the mid section.
The playground bully shows his colors.
The funny thing is that today he wants the photog to apologize to him. I really do hope that the photog will file assault charges and start a lawsuit against the guy. Just 2 days ago, I was sticking up for him. I still believe that this guy COULD do helpful things. But with the way he is acting, I think a 4th grader will get more work done.
I think the photog should press charges for battery.
Then Bruce can get sworn in before a packed room just like he wanted.
Of course, it will be him swearing to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth… but he can bring his bible in again.
I second this fully.
Hey, all the man wants is an audience.
This guy is one sick puppy.
Has a certain ring to it…
Take the case on contingency, it gives the attorneys an incentive to make the judgment as high as possible, since they get a third of it. Happy, happy!
We must have misspelled his name..
It’s Douglas BRUTE
not Bruce. What a difference a T makes!
I saw the video, and that looked like a pretty weak-ass kick to me. You know, Chuck Norris is a conservative Republican, maybe he could give Bruce a few lessons. Seriously, my friend’s baby kicks harder than that guy, and she’s still in the womb.
On the plus side, as I mention in the post on State38, Bruce’s uber-idiotic remark about kicking the photographer to teach him about manners led to one of my favorite lines ever from Rocky Editor John Temple: “For a person to believe that he can provide a lesson in decorum by kicking another human being is unfathomable.”
Uhh, you think?
One measly paparazzi behind him and he gets unhinged. Makes me appreciate how tough Britney Spears is compared to waah-waah wimpy Dougie Bruce.
they are professional and credentialed news photographers who had every right to be where they were and taking the pictures they were taking. To compare them to paparazzi is insulting.
The singular of paparazzi is paparazzo.
First Bruce kicks him in the knee, and then later refuses to apologize. He goes even further by insisting the photographer should apologize for doing his job.
Sue the asshole.
The house should publicly censure the asshole. Republican voters in his district should primary the asshole off the island. The photog should not waste a judge and jury’s time by sueing the asshole.
I was thinking about censure last night. Either way the guy has to be shown by SOMEONE that this type of misbehavior isn’t tolerated.
Why does he get a free pass ?
It was just the proposed method I took issue with.
