What a revelation! The Post, 4/12/09, has a headline article about Jeffco’s bonus system that pays extra money to department heads, mostly. There are, according to the article, no standards, no plan and it’s all ad hoc. Why did so-and-so get a bonus? Answer; He deserved it. By what standards? Answer; I dunno.
Folks, that to me defines cronyism. Rank and file don’t know about it, don’t know how to qualify and mostly don’t get it. Wait till they get just plain fed up with this and decide to get a union. Then maybe there will be transparency. Then it’s “you show me your plan and I’ll show you mine.”
I think if Hartman wants re-election she had better jump on this, she could lead the reform movement. Bonus reform was promised before and it’s being promised again. Don’t we deserve some action this time instead of talk?
Of course, this is only one of many budget issues going on in Jeffco. Going to the Jeffco website takes you to department budgets. Career openings also are enlightening. The Courier and the Post have both had articles and it looks to me as if more people are viewing with alarm than are pointing with pride. Isn’t it time we cleaned house at the Taj Mahal?
