spend most of his presidency in the early to mid stages of dementia. I suppose that’s why impeachment over Contra was never attempted. He wouldn’t have been competent to participate and everybody in Washington knew it.
about Harry Reid and his hatred for the environment? Doesn’t want the mining law changed…interesting.
If you can’t think of any way to defend a Republican just point to a Democrat. It’s the rightie equivalent of witty playground repartee like “Oh Yeah”. Harry Reid, Ken Salazar and too many other Dems to name here take plenty of criticism from lefties right here on this blog all the time.
I just thought it was funny. Notice I’m not trying to defend an R, in fact the article I read said several Rs are in favor of changing it. Just found it interesting, sorry that you’re so defensive about some minor issue.
What mining law? Pardon my ignorance.
They’re looking at updating it. Article in the Gazette today.
Harry Reid received a campaign contribution of $36,799 from Newmont Mining and a total of $322,000 from energy/mining companies; $105,000 from energy/mining PACs and these amounts from mining companies:
Anglogold Ltd $2,000
Arch Coal $1,000
Cleveland-Cliffs $1,000
Foundation Coal $2,500
Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold $3,000
Joy Global Inc $1,000
Kennecott Holdings $5,000
National Mining Assn $7,500
National Mining Assn $2,000
Peabody Energy $3,000
Phelps Dodge Corp $6,000
In tried and true political fashion, money talks whether the recipient is a D or an R.
That was indeed one of Reagans more noteworthy quotes. So remember to cut down a tree on your commute to work in your SUV!
And the funny thing, is that a number of trees do give off a number of chemical compounds that are “pollutinates”. They are the same set of methanes, sulfurs, nitrates, aromatics, oils, etc as what you see from cars. For example, there is a real reason why the smoky mountains are smokey. The difference is that the trees ARE natural and part of nature/balance/etc while our cars give a LOT pollution. His argument would be like saying that since we obtain a large amount of radiation from the sun, that we should go ahead and dispose of our radiation in the open, as long as it can not be made into bombs.
reagan and W. are very identical.
The smokey mountains argument, didn’t Bush Sr. try to use that one?
I followed just about everything that man did back then since he had such a big impact on me (working on DOD funds, DARPA grants, and CDC as well as being single during college time). Basically, tried to claim that trees were worse than cars. It was during the watts era.
Besides, google is your friend.
James Watt was the lightning rod for saying the craziest things, but EPA head Anne Gorsuch and her #2, Eric Eidsness, deserve as much of the blame for implementing policies that gutted environmental review. Yes, that Eric Eidsness.
(Ms. Gorsuch will be glad when Harriet Miers is held in contempt of Congress, as she was the last Administration official to have received this honor.)
But here’s the broad brush record after 6 months:
Democrats Passed First Minimum Wage Increase in a Decade.
Democrats Passed War Spending Bill that Included $6 Billion for Hurricane Relief.
Democrats Passed Legislation Out of Committee Providing the Largest Increase for Veterans Affairs Funding in History.
Iraq Supplemental Appropriations Bill Included Additional $1.8 Billion for Veterans’ Health Care.
Democrats Passed Ethics and Lobbying Reform Bill.
Democrats Passed Bill to Cut Subsidies to Student Lenders and Provide $17 Billion in Grants and Other Student Aid.
Democrats Passed a Fiscally Responsible Budget.
Democrats Passed Energy Bill That Increased Fuel-Efficiency Standards for First Time Since 1975
………………………….
Let’s support this Congress. Let’s elect more Democratic representatives to the Senate. And let’s hold the “Accountability Fire” to the feet of those Republicans who rubber stamped this obnoxious president for all those years.
God, what a price we’ve paid!
I don’t think “fragging” applies. “fragging’ usually comes from the bottom up: a grunt gets tired of a gung-ho looie bucking for promotion over his dead body, and tosses a grenade into the officers’ latrine on the sly.
This looks like premeditated murder; assassination, even: three shots to the forehead, from close range? That ain’t NO KINDA accident.
The biggest question I have nurtured since the event was/is “why did they burn his journal?”
The corruption in this Republican administration has reached epic, tragic, proportions.
that the truth slowly being revealed about Tillman’s murder (I’m guessing) is so much like the truth that is slowly being revealed about all the crimes and disasters for which this administration is responsible. I have to keep believing that truth will win, that justice will win.
Because if not, I think you would really enjoy the debate and discussion section. http://forums.someth…
go to this link http://www.pbs.org/n… to read about one segment of the show, about the Republican Party’s documented attempts to suppress minority and Democratic votes in the 2004 election. The show provided the clearest and most complete explanation I’ve heard of the “voter caging” process. Apparently the Repubs have admitted to the attempts in many states such as Florida and Ohio – but they claim it is not illegal. Very sad.

Among the additional, web-based material is an interview with former U.S. attorney of New Mexico David Iglesias, a Republican:
NOW: One press account described it as, “A misuse of power of the Department of Justice in the service of the Republican Party.” Do you agree?
[David Iglesias]: I think that handsomely covers the issue…
